This invention relates to an improved mixing box for mortar and the like.
An object of this invention is to conveniently hold a hod support in such position on a mixing box whereby the hod may be placed thereon for filling, and to hold the hod support in another position on the mixing box whereby the mixing box may be easily stored, moved or carried.
Another object of this invention is to improve a mixing box construction for cementitious products such as cement, plaster and other like substances by the addition of fastening elements which are vertically disposed on one side of the mixing box below the conventional flange thereof, the flange having openings or passages therein whereby a hod Support may be passed through the openings and disposed in the vertical fastening elements so that the hod support is placed very close to the actual working zone in the mixing box.
Another object of this invention is to adjustably support the hod support in selected elevational positions so that the most advantageous height may be obtained and to selectively nx the hod support on the side of the mixing box in such a position that the V-shaped top meinber of the support has one end in communieating engagement with the flange of the mixing box tlereby rmly holding it in place and not relying solely on the particular fastening means for holding the hod support to the side of the box.
Other objects and features of novelty will become apparent to these skilled in the art, in following the description of the preferred form of the invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure l'is a perspective view of the combination mixing box and hod support showing one operative position thereof;
Figure 2 is a side view of the mechanism shown in Figure l. the hod support being disposed on 'the side of the mixing box for transportation and storage purposes;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure l. and in the direction of the arrows, and;
Figure- 4 is sectional detail view taken subsiantially on the line l-ll of Figure 2 and in y the direction or" the arrows.
Very often a hod carrier must retain the hod on his shoulder or in a desired position, usually by a make-shift arrangement while the hod is being lled with mortar, lime mixture or other cementitious products. Stands have been made and used for supporting the hod, these stands being a separate and distinct element and requiring separate handling from the mixing box. lt is one of the prime fields of utility and advantages of the present device to combine a mixing box with a hod support so that wherever moved, the hod support is moved therewith.
A substantially conventional mixing box is provided :or illustrative purposes and includes a bottom lil, opposed sides I2 and i4 respectively and ends it and I8. The ends have handles Il and i9 fixed thereto which are used for moving the box from one place to another. A laterally yrejecting flange generally indicated at 20 is d.- .I around the upper edges of the sides and end This lateral flange consists of a top member 22 having a right angularly disposed side 2t connected therewith and a bottom member 2G.
The above described mixing box is conventional. Added to the conventional mixing box is a hasp 23 which is fixed to the side I4 and a pair oi' fastening elements or members 29 and 3Q respectively. The last mentioned fastening elements 29 and 35i are substantially parallel and are vertically disposed on the side I4. The hasp is substantially at the longitudinal center of the side Ill but more toward the top of the side than the bottom. The actual disposition of the 2E- is chosen so that the hod support generally indicated at 32 may be iixed thereto whereby the substantially V-shaped member 34 at the top thereof may have one end in contacting relationship with the lower part 26 of the flange 2li.
When the hod support 34 is to be transported or stored with the mixing box, the cross member 35 which forms a part of the hod support 32 is utilized. A slot 38 is in this cross member and ts over the hasp 28, whereby a hook 4U, nail or the like may be passed through the hasp in order to nx. the hod support 32 to the side it of the mixing box in a removable manner. The cross member 3B, slot 38 and hasp 28 form a means tor removably iixing the hod support 32 on the side or" the mixing box.
When it is desired to utilize the hod support as such, the two parallel legs le and 46 respectively have their lower ends disposed in the substantially \/shaped parallel fastening elements 29 and 3B. Before this insertion, how-- ever, the legs (lower ends thereof) are passed through suitable openings (unnumbered) in the flange 2S which are directly above the substantially V-shaped fastening elements or members 29 and 30 respectively.
The said cross member 36 performs a dual function. The irst is to cooperate with the hasp 28 to form a part of the means for fastening the hod support 32 to the mixing box. The second is to maintain the legs M and d6 in spaced substantially parallel relationship with each other and form a more sturdy construction. Another cross member 48 is carried by the same legs 44 and 46 and serves a similar function.
At the top of the legs M and 4t there is another cross member 553, any number of cross members being used as found desirable, and this last mentioned cross member forms a seat for the two members 52 and 54 which are so disposed as. io present a V-shaped hod support member.
In order to adjust the vertical height of the support member 3ft, a number of pairs of open.-
ings G are provided in each fastening element 29 and 3d and openings 58 are provided in the legs 44 and dii. Pins s?. are passed through the pairs of openings and through selected openings 53A in the legs thereby maintaining the hod support in selected vertical positions with respect to elevation. If it is found desirable to use this portion of the device without the necessity of the openings or without actual utility of the openings 58, this may be done, the pin B simply serving in theV capacity of a stop with the very ends of the legs being disposed thereon.
In transporting the device from one building siteto` another equipment has a tendency to become separated. That is, when it is loaded on a truck it is simply indiscriminately thrown thereon'. Itoften requires considerable time to set up the equipment on anew site. To partially avoid this time losing difficulty, the hod support 32 is simply disposed' on the side i4 of the mixing box. However, the hod support should be placed firmly thereon so that it will not inadvertently fall. Accordingly, the fastening elements 29 and 3D may be made of such length as to be engaged by one leg 44, while one end of the hod support member 34 engages the undersurface of the flange 2G. This, together with the fastening means connected with the cross member 35 xes the hod support so that it virtually cannot be separated from the mixing box, these two elements being used together on a location or building site.
It is apparent that variations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described the claimed as new is:
l. In a mixing box which includes a side, a hod support and means secured to the mixing box side for releasably fixing said hod support thereto.
2. An attachment for a mixing box which includes a bottom and sides, a hod support including a V -shaped member and legs extending therefrom, and means secured to one of said sides for removably supporting said hod support by holding said legs in a substantially vertical position.
3. An attachment for a mixing box which includes a bottom and sides, a hod support including a V-shaped member and legs extending invention, what is therefrom, and means secured to one of said sides for removably supporting said hod support by holding said legs in a substantially vertical position, a ange at the upper edges of the sides of the mixing box, one of said flanges having apertures therein directly over said supporting means, and said legs being passed through said apertures and into said supporting means.
4. The combination of claim 3 and said legs having a cross member xed thereto to strengthen said legs, said cross member and one side of said box having cooperating fastening means for releasably retaining said hod support on said mixing box.
5. The combination of claim 4 and said V- shapedA member being disposed under said flange when said hod support is held by said fastening means.
5. In a mixing box which includes sides and a bottom, fastening elements carried by one of said sides to removably carry a hod support, and said fastening elements having a plurality of openings therein with pins removably disposed in said openings to retain the hod support in selected elevated positions.
7. In a cement mixing apparatus including a mixing box having a bottom, sides and a flange extending laterally from the upper edge of said sides, the combination thereof with a hod support and means carried by one of the sides for retaining the support in the inoperative position including fastening means in part on said support and in part on one of the sides disposed below the flange, said support having a hod retaining element at the top thereof, and said hod retaining element being disposed below and in contacting relationship with said ange.
8. In a cement mixing apparatus including a mixing box having a bottom, sides and a flange extending laterally from the upper edge of said sides, the combination thereof with a hod support and means carried by one of the sides for retaining the support in the operative position including fasteningelements fixed in vertical parallel relationship on one of said sides, said fastening elements having said support removably disposed therein, and a part of said support passed through openings in said flange above said ange.
9. In a mortar box which has sides, fastening elements secured to one of said sides, a hod support releasably carried by said fastening elements to retain said hod carrier support adjacent the mortar box.
10. In a mixing box which includes sides, a support for a hod, said support including at least one leg, and means secured to one of the sides of said mortar box having said leg removably carried thereby to retain said support alongside of the mortar box.
