RESTARTER FOR ROTARY IMPULSE TYPE MOTORS Filed Nov. 19, 1949 mum willlllllllllllll/ [/7 1/6)? for Patented May 22, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE RESTARTER FOR ROTARY IMPULSE TYPE MOTORS Nick A. Croghan, Moscow, Idaho Application November 19, 1949, Serial No. 128,458
1 Claim. 1
An important object of the invention is to provide a method and device which will quickly and conveniently restart an electric razor with a rotary impulse type motor when it has stopped due to dirt, whiskers or other small particles of foreign material having become lodged between the breaker points of the motor.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodying my invention, shown affixed in place on an electric razor with a rotary impulse type electric motor, and showing the breaker points of the rotary impulse type electric motor. This figure shows the device in a non-operating position.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the device embodying my invention, shown affixed in place on an electric razor with a rotary impulse type electric motor, and showing the breaker points of the rotary impulse type electric motor. This figure shows the device in an operating position.
Figure 3 is a side elevation detail drawing of the parts of the device embodying my invention.
Figure 4 is a partial view of a razor-head showing the breaker points.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpos of illustration, is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral l designates a cap made of a material which does not conduct electricity, attached to a vertical pin 2, made of a material which does conduct electricity. An expansion spring 3 is placed on the vertical pin 2, which is projected through a hole in the electric razor case 5, and a holding pin 4 is placed in a horizontal hole in the vertical pin 2, to prevent the force of the expansion spring from forcing the vertical pin out of the electric razor case 5. The breaker points of a rotary impulse type electric razor are designated by the numeral 1, which are attached to the breaker point arms 6.
Figure 1 shows the vertical pin 2, cap I, and holding pin 4 in the normal retracted position, where they are held by the expansion spring 3. The breaker points I and breaker point arms 6 are shown in an open position, with the dotted lines representing a closed, or contact, position. When an electric razor with a rotary impulse type electric motor is in operation the breaker points move constantly from the open position to the closed position, and back to the open position, and so forth until the operation is ceased.
Figure 2 shows the vertical pin 2, cap I, and holding pin 4 in the position of operation, placed there by force provided by pressing downward on the cap I. The breaker points 1 and the breaker point arms 6, are in a partially closed position, where they have been stopped because a piece of whisker, dirt, or other foreign particle has lodged between the breaker points I, thus preventing a contact of the breaker points 1, which has the effect of stopping the rotary impulse type electric motor, placing the electric razor out of operation. When the cap I is pressed downward, forcing vertical pin 2, together with the holding pin 4, down until the vertical pin 2 touches the breaker points 1. Electricity is able to pass across the breaker points 1, which has the effect of restarting the rotary impulse type electric motor, restoring the electric razor to operation. The piece of whisker or foreign particle is thrown clear b the action of the breaker points, and the electric razor is then in normal operation. The pressure on the cap I is removed and the vertical pin 2, cap I and holding pin 4 are raised upward to the normal retracted position by the force of the expansion spring 3.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention, herewith shown and described, is to be taken as preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A device for restarting an electric razor with a rotary impulse type electric motor, which, after once starting, has become stopped due to a failure of its breaker points to make contact, comprising a rotary impulse type electric motor; a pin made of conductive material, arranged to permit it to be pressed downward to make contact with both breaker points of the rotary impulse type electric motor; a cap for said pin made of non-conductive material; an expansion spring to hold the pin in a retracted position when it is not being pressed downward; and a holding pin or the like to keep the parts from being detached from the electric razor.
