Description
Dec. 5, 1933. w. F. CURLEE 1,938,097
ELECTRIC FUSE Filed Oct. 16. 1951 Mum/11 (an if INVENTOR.
A TTORNEY conventional means.
Patented Dec. 5, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ELECTRIC FUSE William F. Curlee, Houston, Tex.
Application October 16, 1931. Serial No. 569,146
2 Claims. (01. 200-134) This invention relates to electric fuses.
It has for its general .object the provision of a device including a fuse holder associated with terminal members so that the fuse may readily be placed in and removed from the circuit, the
holder embodying new and improved means to releasably hold the fuse so that it may be easily replaced.
Other objects will hereinafter appear.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing, of which Fig. 1 is a longitudinalsectional view of the device showing the fuse in the circuit; Fig. 2, a View similar to Fig. 1, illustrating the movement of the fuse out of the circuit; Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sectional views illustrating the movement of the blade of the fuse into the clip of the holder.
In the drawing, the box or other support in which the device is mounted is indicated at 1. It may have a cover 2. Within the box 1 is mounted an insulating base 3, and on the base 3 are mounted the terminal members 4 and 5 to which the electric wires, not shown, are connected by Each of the terminals4 and 5 has a pair of spaced spring fingers. 6. Pivotally mounted at8 in the box 1 is a fuse holder 9, made of insulating material. Mounted on the holder 9 by suitable bolts 10 are a pair of spaced fuse clips 11. Each of the clips 11 comprises a hook 12 having, anrelongated fiat edge 13; an
a spring14 adjacent the edge 13. Y
It will be noted in Fig. 3 that the edge 13 of the hooks and the contact surfaces of the fingers 6 of the terminals are in substantially the same plane, so that the blades 16 are guided by the holder 9 for movement between the fingers 6 of the terminals 4 and 5.
When the electrician desires to insert a new fuse, he need only remove the cover 2 of the box, swing the fuse holder 9 outwardly on its pivot 8 to move the old fuse away from the terminals 4 and 5, insert a new fuse in the holder, swing the holder back to move the new fuse into the circuit, and replace the cover 2.
I claim:
1. The combination of a pair of electric terminal members, each of said members comprising a pair of spring fingers having fiat contact surfaces; a fuse holder having a pair of clips, each of said clips comprising a hook having an elongated edge, and a spring adjacent said edge; and a fuse having a pair of blades forcible between the springs and hooks of said clips to be releasably held by said springs against the flat edges of said hooks; a support for said terminals and holder; said holder being pivotally mounted on said support so that it may be swung on its pivot to force said blades between and to remove said blades from the contact surfaces of the fingers of said terminal members.
2. The combination of a pair of electric terminal members, each of said members comprising a pair of spring fingers; a fuse holder having a pair of clips, each of said clips comprising a hook having an elongated flat edge, and a spring adjacent said edge; and a fuse having a pair of blades forcible between the springs and hooks of said clips to be releasably held by said springs against said edges ofsaid hooks; said fuse being movable
