1 Claim.
This invention relates to selective dispensers of powdered materials and more especially to dispensers of soap and cleaning powders adapted to be hung upon a wall, or the like, and each dispenser having two or more compartments open at the top for filling, and a dispenser outlet in its floor area for each compartment, each of said outlets being provided with a selective removable closure.
This invention is an improvement of the Selective Dispensers of Powdered Materials for which application for patent was filed on August 9, 1946, Serial Number 689,320, ne abandoned.
The objects of the invention are to provide an attractive well-made powder dispenser, preferably of plastic material but adapted to be made of any other material; to provide such a dispenser the surrounding wall of which include multiple fiat sections one of which is adapted to rest against a fiat upright upon which the dispenser is hung; to provide novel means for selectively dispensing powdered materials by way of difierent outlets with which the fioor of the dispenser is provided; to provide longitudinally pulled actuators, each separately operable to temporarily remove a closure of a particular one of said outlets; and to provide a longitudinally movable springdevice for loosening packed powder material within each compartment of the dispenser, said device being operable by a pull actuator.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, the Figure l is a perspective view of a slightly tipped dispenser having an hexagonal wall and illustrating at the top a portion of interior of the dispenser; Figure 2 is an exterior bottom view of the dispenser illustrating floor outlets and, in dotted line, a partition dividin compartments; Figure 3 is an upright View of a hanger member illustrating apertures for screw-heads and shank portions; Figure 4 is a side elevation illustrating two positions of entering screws; Figure 5 is an upright elevation of dispenser with front panel of wall removed to expose to view powder-loosening means in full line upon near side of interior partition and showing in dotted line upon opposite side of partition another form of said means, one of said actuators being shown in operated position; Figure 6 is .an upright elevation of dispenser illustrating manner of securing partition within slots in floor and cylindrical wall; and Figure 7 is an edge view of removed cover of hexagonal walled dispenser.
With more particular reference to the ac- 2 companying drawing, the numerals l, 2, 3', 4, 5 and 6 designate the continuous panels of flat sections of the one-piece plastic material of wall of the dispenser D, the sections having between them the deep scorings IA, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A providing weakened lines upon which the plastic,
material may be easily folded to provide an hexagonally formed wall as illustrated by the Figure 1. Theend edges l and 8 of the one-piece plastic material are each bevelled and cemented or otherwise secured together' The bottom 9, illustrated by the Figure 2, is cemented or otherwise secured to the lower edges of the folded panels I, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, as at IB, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B .and 6B. Relatively spaced outlets l0 and H are provided by the bottom 9, one upon opposite sides of the partition l2, such partition dividing the dispenser interior into two separate compartments l3 and M, the partition l2 in width extending from the cemented edges 7 and 8 to the scoring lA.
The hanger l5 may be made in one or more pieces in table-like form so that, adjacent the two openings Hi and IT with their enlargements 16A and HA, the hanger 15 will be spaced from the rear panel 4 to which the hanger 15 is cemented or otherwise secured for a purpose to be a explained.
The partition I2 at its top edge i8 is provided with a cut-out section I9 to provide a seat for a saddle member 26 from which there are suspended, one upon either side of the partition I2 a spring device 21 comprising either a long coil spring 2 IB, illustrated by dotted line by the Figure 5, or a shorter coil spring ZlB connected with a rigid longitudinally extending stem 2|C, the rigid stem 2lC having the out-standing fingers or spurs 2 ID. Suspended from each of the spring devices 2| is a plastic formed actuator 22 or 23, each having an upwardly extending extremity 24 movable within an outlet I 0 or I l. Stops 25 with which each of the extremities E i are provided are adapted to engage the bottom 9 surrounding the outlets in or II to limit the pulled movement of the actuators 22 or 23. Closures 26 and 21, each integral with the actuator 22 and 23, respectively, are adapted to engage an exterior surface of the bottom 9 surrounding the outlets m or H, each of said closures being maintained in outlet-enclosing position by means of the spring device 2|. Handles 22A and 23A are provided integral with the actuators 22 and 23, respectively, for manual pulling operation thereof.
The hexagonal open top of the dispenser D is provided with a cover 28, illustrated by the Figure '7.
The Figure 6 is intended only to illustrate the manner in which a partition 12A may be secured Within the interior of a cylindrically formed wall of a dispenser by means of lugs I2B, I20 and I2D provided by edges of the partition and engaged within narrow openings DA and DB, in the dispenser wall, and DC in the dispenser bottom 9A.
To prepare for use, the dispenser is hung upon a wall or upright adjacent a kitchen sink, setbowl, or otherwise, where two screws or nails S with suitable heads have been driven therein properly spaced apart so that the Openings lS-il provided therefor by the hanger 15 may register with said screw heads. With said openings I6|'l passed over the two screw heads, the dispenser, with the hanger attached, is drawn downwardly to lodge the shanks of both screws within the enlargements ISA and HA of the openings lB-l'l, respectively, whereby the screw heads become locked therein against accidental dislodgment of the hanger l5 therefrom.
With the cover 28 removed, each of the compartments I3M may be filled with powdered material, such as soap and cleaning powder, respectively. The closures 262'i held in close engagement with the exterior surface of the bottom 9 around the outlets HJ-l l, respectively, the contents of the compartments l3l4 are safely held therein.
To obtain a portion of either soap or cleaning material, the proper actuator 22, if soap is desired, or actuator 23 if cleaning powder is wanted, is pulled downwardly until a stop 25 carried by either actuator 22 or 23 engages the interior surface of the bottom 9. The downward pull of the actuator 22 or 23 longitudinally moves against the tension of the spring device 2| which loosens a packed powder content as the wire coi1'2lA expands, or as the stern 210 with its fingers 2|D (whichever form of powder-loosening is employed) is carried therewith. The action or" the powder-loosening device 2| insures a portion of powder material being dispensed through the open outlet in or I I. As soon as the manual control of the actuator 22 or 23 is released the spring device 2|A or 21C returns to its normal position and draws the closure 26 or 21 into engagement with the exterior surface of the bottom 9 around the outlet in or II.
I claim:
A container for selectively dispensing powdered material, said container having a removable cover and a closed bottom, a partition fixed within said container and dividing the interior thereof into separate compartments each open at the top, outlets in said bottom substantially spaced apart, one for each compartment, a closure for each outlet, each closure having a reduced portion extending up into said outlet, a cross-piece of a length shorter than the distance between said bottom outlets extending transversely across the top portion of the partition and an equal distance into each of said compartments, a powder loosening device for each compartment, each device including a coil spring suspended from the portion of the cross-piece extending into said compartment, the lower end of each spring being connected with said reduced portion of said closure to normally maintain said closure in closed position with respect tosaid outlet, a pull actuator provided by each closure for manually opening an outlet against the tension of said coil spring, and a stop provided by the extremity of each reduced portion for engagement with the interior surface of said bottom to limit the action of said actuator.
