This application is a substitute application for my application, Serial No. 215,755, filed June 25, 1938, now abandoned.
This invention relates to improvements in safety razors.
An important object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive safety razor having an integral razor blade of small size whereby the entire razor must be disposed of after the blade becomes too dull for shaving purposes.
A further feature of the invention is a safety razor wherein the blade and its'holder have the form of a single unit which is simple and inexpensive in construction to enable its user to economically dispose of the entire unit after a limited number of shaves, thus eliminating the need of removing a used blade'from itsholder and replacing the same.
Another object of the invention is the pro-V vision of a safety razor unit in which the razor blade and holder is constructed from a single blank of flexible metal.
An additional feature of the invention is the provision of a razor blade holder in which the handle thereof is constructed of a pair of elements included in the blank and bent into position when the razor is needed for use.
The construction and advantages-thereofWill be apparent as the following specification is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank for a razor presenting one form of the invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectionalview through a razor constructed from the blank shown in Figure 1, the section being, taken through the middle of the construction shown in Figure 1 but with all parts in folded position.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a blank of a somewhat modified form.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of a razor constructed from a blank such as that shown in Figure 3.
Figure 5 is an enlarged vertical longitudinal sectional view on the line 55 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a plan view of a blank of a still further modified form.
Figure 7 is a top plan view of a razor constructed from the blank shown in Figure 6.
Figure 7A is a cross-section taken vertically through the middle of Figure '7.
In Figures 1 and 2, a single edge blade razor is constructed from a single blank of bendable metal L which includes a body portion I52 from which arms I53 extend, the said arms being 5 Claims. Extending from one side of the body I52 is a" guard plate I51 which is formed with a row of spaced slots I58, the guard plate being folded over along the row of slots on the dot and dash} lines I59. Integral with the guard plate I51 and foldable relative thereto on the line I59 is a single edge blade I60. Extending from the opposite side of the body I52 is a clamping plate I6I foldable over the body on the fold line I62, In folding the blank L, the same is first folded .on the line I59 to cause a portioniof the guard I formed by the slots I58. 20'

In the form shown in Figures 3 to" inclusive, a razor unit provided with a single edge blade'is formed from a single blank of bendable metal M which is out toprovide a pair of guard plate sections I63 and I64 foldable one uponthe other" 1 on the dot and dashl'ines I65; A row of spaced slots I66 extends albng tneline or fold IE5 is provide guard fingers when the sectionsare folded one uponthe other.
The guard sections I53 and are providedwith slots I61 and I68 respectively which register when the sections are folded on the line I65. Integral with the section I63 along the fold line I69 is a single edge blade I10 having an elongated slot I1I therein adapted. to register with the slots I61 and I68 when the blank is folded into razor forming position. Extending from opposite ends of the section I63 and foldable on the lines I12, are clamping plate sections I13, the terminal ends of which are provided with flanges I14 foldable on lines I15. Integral with the guard plate section I64 is a handle or finger grip member I16 which is bendable on the fold line I11. In this form, the blade I16 is foldable over the guard plate section I63 after which the guard plate section I64 is foldable under the plate section I63, thus forming fingers out of the row of slots I66. The handle I16 is bent at right angle to the folded guard plate section I 64 and the clamping plate sections I13 are folded over the blade I with the flanges I14 bent to pass through the registering slots I'll, I61, and I68, after which the terminal ends of the flanges are bent outwardly and underlie the guard plate section I63 as best illustrated in Figure 57.

I11 folding the blank N into razor forming position, the blade I8! is folded over the guard plate I18," after which the'bridge rail I8I is folded upwardly over the blade I81 to overlie the same as illustrated in Figure '7; after which arms I83 are bent under the guard plate on the fold lines I82 to lie flat thereagainst, after which the finger grip elements I85 are bent to their handle forming position. In this'form, it will be seen that the clamping rail I8I tends to clamp the blade inposition against the guard plate I18.
While the razor unit may be constructed of steel, in instances where the blade is formed separate and joined to the blade holder, the holder may be constructed of sheet aluminum.
Also, where the blade is integral with the holder.
the'entire unit-is constructed of steel but only the cutting blade is heat treated to harden it.
While I have shown and described what I consider to be the preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it tobe understood that such modifications thereof 1 may be resorted to as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is: I
'1. A safety razor comprising a single elongated strip of bendable metal having a wide intermediate portion foldedfu pon itself lengthwise of the strip to provide a pair of superposed inner and outer clamping plates, a razor blade interposed between said plates, the inner plate having guard teeth, and abutting handle members guardplate, a folded blade overlying said guard plate, the blade being integral with said plate and united thereto along one longitudinal edge,
means carried by the strip for holding said blade against said guard plate, and a two part handle formed at the free terminal ends of said strip overlying said means and extending outwardly at right angle from said guard plate.
4. In a safetyrazor a strip'having -'a clamping plate and a blade at opposite sides of the strip,
said blade being folded'lengthwise of the strip and said clamping plate also folded lengthwise of the strip and against the blade, the. strip having arms adjacent the ends of-the blade "and plate, said arms carrying finger-grip elements," said arms being folded'against 'the'plate and said elements extending outward of said plate.
5. A safety razor comprising a strip of flexible metal having an intermediate portion foldedf upon itself lengthwise of the strip to provide inner and outer clamping plates and a razor blade between said plates, the strip having means providing a' handle for holding said razor, the blade being integral with one. of said plates and united thereto along one longitudinal edge.
