Description
Patented Apr. 17, 1951 STEP-N CAN WITH DUSTPAN Anthony M. Oampanelli, New York, N. Y. Application April 26, 1948, Serial No. 23,218
' 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a can.container with a separable dust pan top forming a part of the cover.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a can arrangement wherein the dust pan is built into the cover and is'separable therefrom for use and wherein provision is made on the can for the support of a brush whereby to save space for the storage of such utility items and wherein the handle for the dustpan will serve as the handle for the cover when the dust pan is mounted in the cover frame.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a combined can container and dust pan which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, compact, easy to separate the dust pan therefrom and to insert the same in place within the cover frame and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the combined can container and dust pan cover and of the brush mounted on the side of the can.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view, in elevation, taken on line 22 of Fig. 1 and through the cover thereof.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view in elevation taken through the can with the cover lifted, the view being taken generally on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary transverse sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the cover separated from the cover frame and adapted for use free of the can container.
Referring now to the figures, represents a main body portion of a can container to the sides of which and at the bottom thereof there is pivotally connected as indicated at H a U-shaped lever I 2 having a foot portion extending from the front of the can as indicated at I3 and through notches l4 and in the bottom of the can. To the lever 12, there is connected links 16 which are in turn connected to a cover frame I! as indicated at I8 to lift the cover frame to a raised position as shown in Fig. 3. The top edge of the main portion I0 is inclined downwardly from the rear of the portion to the front of the same. The main body portion 10 is adapted to receive a can I 9 and access to the same is had by the lifting of the cover frame IT with a separable dust pan 2| thereon to complete the cover formation. The dust pan is of the usual shape and has a side flange extending from each' side as indicated at 22 to be extended into 'a side groove 23 of the cover frame H. The flange has a tight fit engagement withthe groove and will be retained within the groove and upon the frame II by friction. The dust pan has a handle 24 which only serves as the handle for the pan but also serves as the handle for the cover.
At one corner of the main body portion I0 there is provided a clip 26 which is secured by a rivet 27 on the corner of the portion [0. This clip will serve to support a brush 28.
, By depressing the foot portion I3 of the lever 12, the cover with the dust pan attached will be elevated and upon release of the lever, the cover arrangement can be lowered. If the cover arrangement is in its full raised position, the handle 24 will be grasped to pull the cover arrangement to its closed position. To remove the dust pan, the same will be pulledby the handle outwardly from the frame [7.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what'is claimed is:
A combined can container and dust pan cover comprising a main container portion having anopen top, a cover frame hinged along the rear upper edge of the container portion, said frame extending about the top of the container portion, a dust pan releasably secured to the top of the cover frame in an inverted manner, said cover frame having inwardly facing grooves on the opposite sides thereof, said dust pan having laterally extending flanges on the opposite side edges flanged outwardly to be slidably received in the grooves whereby to secure the dust pan to the cover frame, said dust pan having a front portion with a handle extending outwardly therefrom and said handle serving as means by whichthe dust pan can be separated from the cover frame andfrom the grooves thereof, said handle also serving as a lift when the dust pan is in place within the cover frame, to lift the cover frame and the dust pan from the top of the main container portion.
