FOLDABLE WREATH-FORMING FOUNDATION Filed June 5, 1949 4 INVENTOR, F1 7. 4 Ha /Z3. Prop"? HTTOHNE;
Patented Apr. 17, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FOLDABLE WREATH-FORMIN G FOUNDATION Roy B. Propst, Los Angeles, Calif. Application June 3, 1949, Serial No. 96,881
3 Claims.
This invention relates to foldable wreathforming foundations, and more particularly to wreath foundation made in sections or segments, pivotally or hingedly connected, and foldable into small compass so as to be mailed in an envelope, or small package, and which can be opened out and secured as a round foundation on which to attach greens, ferns, flowers and the like, to form a wreath.
Among the salient objects of the invention are: to provide such a foundation article that it can be used over and over again, if desired, which is durable, and sufficiently strong and rigid that it makes a firm form foundation; to provide such a foundation that it can be folded into small compass and stored in small space, or mailed to distant places; to provide such an article which is economical, practical and efiicient for the purpose for which it is created.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, I have illustrated one simple, practical embodiment of the invention referred to, and in which:
Figure l is a face view of said foundation, ready to receive the decoration to form a wreath;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view showing the reverse side of one of the hinge joints and the interlock;
Figure 3 is an edge view thereof;
Figure 4. shows how the parts are folded for shipment; and
Figure 5 shows a piece of the form, provided with marginal notches to facilitate tieing the decorations thereon.
Referring in detail to the drawings, in the present showing, six sections or segments are shown, pivotally connected together and interlocked. These sections or segments are designated 6, 6, each having one end round, as at l, with a rivet hole 8, therethrough, and having its other end tapered to a point, as at 9, with a rivet hole 8', therethrough, to register with the rivet hole 8 in an adjacent round end. At the round end of each, the inner edge is provided with a notch I0, and the tapered end, adjacent this round end, is provided with a struck out kink I I, which is positioned to register with and interlock in said notch H], as will be understood from Figs. 2 and 3.
The rivets, designated l 2, are more like eyelets which can be inserted through the registering 2 and theseveral sections can be folded outwardly in the form shown in Fig. 4, thus making it easy to store, pack or mail the compelte form or foundation.
In Fig. 5, I have indicated how each segment or section can be provided with the notches l3, I3, for use in tieing greens, ferns, or other wreath materials to the form, as will be understood by those versed in the art.
I do not limit the invention to the details shown for explanatory purposes, except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claims.
I claim:
1. A foldable wreath foundation consisting of a plurality of fiat metal circle segments pivotally connected at their overlapping ends to form a circular form, each section being curved, said sections being foldable together when one pivotal connection is separated, said sections, at their pivot ends, having notch and kink interlocking means for locking them into a circular form.
2. A foldable wreath foundation consisting of a plurality of curved flat sections, each being a segment of a complete circle, pivotally connected at their ends, one section having a notch in its edge, near its pivot and the other section having an overlapping end provided with a struck-out part near its pivot to fit said notch when said sections are opened in connected circular form, and to move out of said notch whereby said curved sections can be folded outwardly and brought together in overlapping length for packaging.
3. A foldable wreath foundation consisting of a plurality of curved flat sections, each having a round end and a tapering end to be placed together in overlapping relationship, and riveted together at said overlap, the round end of each having a notch in its edge and the tapering end having a struck-out part positioned to move into said notch as said parts are moved into operating positions to form a round foundation, said sections having notches along their edges to facilitate tieing wreath material thereon.
ROY B. PROPST.
