HORSESHOE.

| L. -itit INVENTOR WITNESSES ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSE R. OANOIO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HORSESHOE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 254,531, dated March 7, 1882. Application filed November 23, 1881. (No model-') To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSE R. OANGIO, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the followin gis a specification.
This invention has reference to improvements in the horseshoe for which Letters Patent of the United Stateswere granted to me heretofore, numbered 190,740, and dated May 15,1877, the object of the improvements being to simplify the attachment of the horseshoe to the hoof and to render the same lighter than heretofore.
The invention consists of the combination, with a recessed horseshoe, of front and side straps, which are connected by angular bands, said bands being attached to the front strap by a transverse screw-bolt and pivot-eyes and to the side straps by slots. i
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a horses hoof with my improved horseshoe attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail vertical transverse sections, respectively, on lines a: x, Fig.2, and y 3 Fig. 1; and Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are respectively detail perspective views of a front and a side strap and a detail top view, showing the connection of the-bands with the front straps.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
b at their outer ends, by which they are applied to projecting studs d of the side straps, D. The front strap, 0, is connected to socketeyes 6 of the bands B B by means of a transverse screw-bolt, f, which passes through a socket-hole,f, at the upper end of the front strap, 0. The eyes e are pivoted to the bentup front ends of the bands B B, as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 7. Straps G and D are made of angular shape at their lower parts, and provided with T-shaped ends 9, by which they are set into socket-shaped recesses g of the shoe A, as shown clearly in Figs. 3 and 4. In this manner the shoe is firmly and reliably attached to the hoof without nails, and worn shoes readily replaced without difficulty by loosening the transverse screw-boltf and detaching the bands and straps from the shoe, after which a new shoe is applied again in reverse order. e
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a shoe, A, and detachable front and side straps, O D, with articulated fastening-bands B B, which are detachably connected to the straps, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the shoe A, having socket-recesses g, detachable front and side straps, G D,having angular and T-shaped ends g, and fastening-bands B B, the latter being connected with said front strap by a transverse screw-bolt and pivot-eyes, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I havesign'ed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' JOSE R. OANGIO.
