Description

A. G. PALM.
HORSBSHOE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 2, 1913.

I yaw wm ADOLPH G. PALM, OF LYLE, MINNESOTA.
HORSESHOE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 23, 1913.
Application filed May 2, 1913. Serial No. 765,098.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnoLrl-r Gr. PALM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lyle, in the county of Mower and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Horseshoe; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful horse shoe.
An object of the invention is to eliminate the necessity of nailing or pegging horse shoes to the hoof.
In order to attain the above objects and others to be hereinafter more specifically set forth and claimed, a horse shoe is provided with an arched sectional flexible steel stra to arch the hoof, for detachably connecting the shoe thereto.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations, to which the patentee is entitled, provided the alterations fall within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :-F igure 1 is a view in perspective of a portion of a horses hoof, showing the improved shoe as applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the shoe detached. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fi 2. Fig. 4f is a sectional View on line 4:t of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 55 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, l designates the usual horse shoe, the rear portion of the prongs of which are con structed with upwardly and forwardly extending integral ears 2 and 3. To the car 2 a strap 4L is hinged as at 5, while the ear 3 is formed with an elongated slot having a cylindrical bar 7 adjoining thereto, said slot being designated by the numeral 6. The strap 4: is constructed of flexible spring steel and is adapted to enter a slot 8 of the flexible spring steel strap 8, and arranged beneath the strap 8, there being a plurality of lugs 9 carried by the strap 4, to enter any three of the pluralit-ies of openings 10 of the strap section 8, whereby the two strap sections 4: and 8 may be adjusted relative to one another, so that the shoe may be made to fit hoo'is of different sizes. The end 11 of the strap 8 has hinged to it as at 12, tapering tongue 13; in the crotch between said tongue and the strap 8 the cylindrical bar 7 is designed to engage. To arrange the cylindrical rod or bar 7 in said crotch, the tapering tongue is passed through the slots 6, and then closed against the strap 8, where the tapering end of the tongue engages a slot 1 1 to prevent displacement of the tongue. In this manner the shoe may be detachably connected to a horses hoof, that is, subsequently to adjusting the strap sections in their desired positions and relative to one another to fit the hoof.
The toe portion of the shoe is provided with an upwardly extending toe piece 15 to engage the forward portions of the hoof to prevent the hoof moving forwardly relative to the shoe. The shoe constructed with detachably connected forward and rear calks 16 and 17, secured to the shoe detachably by screws 18.
Extending upwardly from the upper face of the shoe upon each side thereof are a plurality of sharp pegs 19, which are adapted to be forced in the hoof to assist in holding the shoe in place.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 2- In combination with a horse shoe having integral ears, one upon each side extending upwardly and forwardly, one of said ears having a slot and a cylindrical rod adjoining the slot, a spring steel flexible band hin ed to the other car, a second steel spring flexible baud having slidablo adjustable connections with the first band, said second hand having a hinged tongue, in the crotch between which and the second band the cylindrical rod engages, said second hand having a slot to receive the extremity of said tongue to hold the same detachably locked.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADOLPI-I Gr. PALM.
