Description

(No Model.)
J. NE LLIS.
NEGK YOKE CLIP.
Patented Mar.,7, 1882.
5% k .m W
yoke upon the top of the pole.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' JAMES NELLIS, OF YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE W. VOORHEES, OF SAME PLACE.
NEQCK-YOKE CLIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,497, dated March '7, 1882,
Application filed December 1, 1881. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES NELLIs, of Ypsilanti, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement ter of the neck-yoke, to receive and retain in place the pole-loop and securing-strap.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction of the clip, which is made of two parts, each being nearly half-cylindrical in form, the one overlapping the other at the point of junction, while their free ends terminate in an outwardlyprojecting flange, the flange on each forming a clamp, to which the pole-strap is secured by beingriveted between said flanges.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the clip complete, detached, however, from the neck-yoke and without the pole-loop attached. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the two parts.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents that half of the clip designed to embrace the lower side of the neck-yoke. This portion of the clip is provided with a large central orifice, B, in the cylindrical part thereof, designed to be filled with rubber or any other suitable material, to prevent abrasion by the resting of the This'halfof the clip is provided with an outwardly-projecting flange, G, and with a cut-away portion, as at D, leaving two cars, E, upon this edge of the clip.
F represents the other half the clip, designed to embrace the upper side of the yoke, and it is provided with a flange, G. The corners of the opposite edge are cut away, as at H, which forms the lip H, designed when the parts go together to fill the cut-away portion on the opposite half, while lips upon said half on either side of such cut-away portion engage with the cut-away corners of the second half. Ears I are secured to the cut-away corners and project over the opposite part of the clip, to which such ears are secured by rivets or other suitable devices. This half of the clip is also provided with a loop, J, to which the restraining-strap ot' the neck-yoke is attached.
It will be noticed that when the parts are together the flanges are not parallel upon their inner faces, but stand converging to each other, so that when the pole-loop is inserted between them and secured by rivets passing through the loop and the flanges the latter holds such loop as in ajaw.
What I claim as my invention is-- l. A neck-yoke consisting of two semi-cylindrical parts,AF, provided with overlapping rear edges, 0 G, with interlocking front edges, H E E, and with ears I, by which they are secured together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a neck-yoke clip, the section A, provided with a flange, O, and with opening B D, in combination with the section F, provided with a flange, G, and with a lip, H, to fit the opening D, and suitable devices for securing the two together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In a neck-yoke clip, the section A, provided with a flange, 0, opening B, and with the lips E E, in combination with thesection F, provided with a lip, H, to fit between the lips E E and a flange, G, a loop, J, and fastening-ears I, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
JAMES NELLIS.
