Description

March 13, 1951 F. JACKE'L CORSET WITH ELASTIC INSERT Filed Feb. 25, 1950 IN VEN TOR. F/INNY .f/ICKFL Patented Mar. 13, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CORSETWITH ELASTIC INSERT nn Jac t Br n Application February 25, 1950, Serial No. 146x307 i C m The present inyention is; directed: to corsets, more particularly to; atype wherein elasticmembers are provided,
M ny formsof; corsetsihave been and are-bein used, Theyare; intended:; to imp-roye the. figure of the wearer; and. in particular to. confine the abdominalregionso as toimake; the wearer appear more slender than she actuallyis. Accordingly, various. mechanical: constructions of corsets, have been devised utilizing elastic inserts; in. the. body thereof.. Someof; them were suflicient to accomplish at: least: part. of; the desired result butmany of them were uncomfortable and placed. such reat stress: on the corset. that. they easily tore or ripped.
The; present invention: is; intended and adapted o. Welcome, the dif iculties and: disadvantagesinherent inv prior devices of? the type described, it being among the objects of the present invention to provide a corset which maybe readily; put on and, taken, off and which is.- comfortable to. the
wearer.
It is also among, the: objects of the present in.- vention to provide a corset gives adequate support to the body at the areas where it is most needed, and particularly in the abdominal region.
It is further among the objects of the present invention to provide a structure of corset which isv relatively simple, which. is relatively inexpensive to produce and: which is sufliciently strong and sturdy so. that it is not subject to premature wearing out.
In practicing the present invention there is provided a corset of'the. usual construction, and particularly one. in which inserts of an elastic woven fabric such as those containing threads of rubber or the like are used. Within the front of I connect the. front and rear portions of the corset.
the corset is introduced a panel made of woven fabric which is not elastic. This panel is adapted to cover the abdominal area. On opposite edges of the central panel are provided a pluraliy of astic bands o subs au iai wi The inner ends of' the bands are secured to the edges of the panel and the outer ends are secured to the sides, of the corset, usually in front of the hip bones. The panel itself is free from attachment to the corset.
Usually there are four elastic bands at each edge of the central panel. The upper twobands overlap and extend downwardly and outwardly from the panel and the two lower bands also overlap each other and the upper bands and extend upwardly and outwardly.
By reason of this arrangement, the central panel tends to hold the abdominal area flat due to. the. tension. of the. bands. The. upper bands tend to. hold the abdominal; area from creeping upward and the lowerbands prevent itfrom, extending downward. The structure of the. corset is such that when it. fits snugly, the bands are. in extended positions andv exert. compressive. forces on the. abdominal area. As. a result, there is a uniform distribution of this area and: bulging is practically eliminated.
In the accompanying drawing constituting a part hereof and in which like. reference characters indicate like parts,
Fig. 1 is. a front view of a corset'made in accord'ancewith the present invention;-
Fig. 2&5 a rear view thereof;
Fig. 31 is a fragmentary enlarged View of the inside. of the front of the corset, showing the panel and bands in position;-
Fig'. 4 is a fragmentary view of one edge of the panelshowing therelative. positions of the bands, and
Fig. 5 is a horizontal. cross-sectional view taken along the lined-e5 of Fig. 3.
lhe front I. of the. corset-has. a pair of gores- 2 atthe lower edge thereof madeof an elastic fab.- ric containing rubber threads such as Lastex materiah Alongthe edges of front l are strips 3' or similar elastic material. Back 4 has a gore 5 at the upper edge thereof and strips 6' ofelastic material 7 along the sides. Fabric pieces i A zipper 8 is provided at one side for opening and closing the corset.
As shown more particularly in Figs. 3' and 4, a rectangular-- panel Id of inelastic woven fabric of rectangular form is provided. Upper edge H ex tends slightly above the waistline and lower edge i2 is of a shallow- V-shape. A pair of relatively wide elastic bands I 3 and M are rovided at the edges of the upper portion of panel- I [3, said bands overlapping each other and extending downwardly and outwardly; Similarly a pair of relativelywide elastic bands i5 and 16' are attached to the lower; portion of the edges ofpanel IE1 and extend upwardly and outwardly. Band I 5: underlays bands l3 and l t and band is overlays b d :4- Al f the hand are. stitched to. the pa l. lo the ines. W and. W. Th outer dges. e band are s bed; t member at is. it
Although the invention has been described setting forth a single specific embodiment thereof, various changes in the details of construction may be made within the spirit of the invention.
For instance, instead of having four elastic bands on each side of panel 10, a lesser number may be used or a greater number may be provided. It is essential that the slope of the bands be maintained. For instance, there may be two upper elastic bands and one lower, or vice versa. Seams l9 and 26 need not be made on member 7 but the bands may be directly stitched to the elastic fabric 5. Instead of Lastex fabric, a knitted elastic material may be used. The panel-and-band insert may be placed in other positions within the corset than shown, and it may be reversed. The bands may be overlapped in a different sequence than shown. The insert may have its edges stitched togetherbefore assembling into the cor- 1 set or a tape may be stitched to said edges. The insert may be fitted into other types of corsets than shown herein. In Fig. 5, front I ha been shown as of substantially greater width than the panel and bands. This permits a considerable amount of stretching of the bands but the looseness of panel It may be varied to a considerable degree, depending upon the person to be fitted.
These and other changes may be made in the details of the invention, which is to be broadly construed and not to be limited except by the character of the claims appended hereto.
I claim:
