UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES. M. GRANDALL, OF MONTROSE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR' TO THE C. M. ORANDALL COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
' TOY 0R CHILDS CARRIAGE lN COMBINATION WITH A MUSICAL BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,429, dated February 28, "1882.
A.pplication filed January 9, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, CHARLES M. CRANDALL, of Montrose, Susquehanna county, and State of Pennsylvania have invented a new and Improved Toy or Ohilds Carriage in Combination with a Musical Box; and the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to the accompanyingdrawings, making part of this specification.
This invention consists in a toy or childs carriage in combination with a music-box, as is more particularly described hereinafter.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of my carriage; Fig. 2, a cross-section of same, taken in the line :10 m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures.
A represents a toy or childs carriage, which may be of any desired construction or size. To the under side of the floor of this'carriage, at or near either its rear or front ends, but preferably at its rear, is fixed a casing, B, which depends below the floor of the carriage. Within this casing is secured in any desired manner a music-box, O, with a pulley-wheel, a, attached to that part of the arbor of the barrel of the m usic-hox that projects through its case. Through the casing B, and immediately below the music-box 0, passes the axle b of the wheels D, and to that part of this axle which is within the casingB is fixed a pulley-wheel, 0. Around this pulley-wheel and the pulley-wheel a passes an endless belt, d. To the ends of the axle b are secured the wheels D. Now, when my carriage, with its musical attachment, is arranged substantially as above described, it will be simply necessary to wheel the carriage over the ground or floor, causing the wheels D to revolve, thereby turning the axle. I), which imparts a revolving motion to the pulley-wheel c, and this motion being communicated to the pulley-wheel a by means ofthe endless belt 61, the barrel of the musicbox G turns'and produces the musical notes, asin other music-boxes.
To take up the slack or stretch of the endless belt d, a spring friction-pulley, 0, may be provided, if deemed necessary.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by means of my combined carriage and musical box an additional source of amusement and pleasure is afforded to the user.
The musical box may be made to give out its musical tones without rolling the carriage on the ground or floor by simply placing a finger between two spokes of the wheel, and in that way revolving the wheel and operating the musical mechanism.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A childs carriage in combination with a musical box, substantially as described.
2. Ina childs carriage, one or more of its axles provided with a pulley-wheel, in combination with a musical box and pulley fixed thereto, and an endless belt, substantially as shown and described.
3. In achilds carriage, the combination, with a musical box and pulleys and endless belt, of a spring friction-pulley, as and for the purpose described.
