Description

Patented Mar. 6, 1951 WREATH HOLDER FOR GASKETS Leroy M. Thorp and Eddie R. Nelson, Sioux City,
Iowa, assignors to White Manufacturing Company, Colorado Springs, (3010., a corporation of Illinois Application May 26, 1947, Serial No. 750,444
2 Claims. 1
Our invention pertains to a wreath holder for caskets.
An object of our invention is to provide a wreath holder which will substantially conform to the lid of a casket, and will include means for frictionally engaging the said casket lid, so that the holder and wreath will not slide off of the casket during transportation thereof.
A further object of our invention is to provide a compact arrangement which will efiiciently hold the wreaths thereon, and to further provide an arrangement wherein the holder can be collapsed to a minimum space.
With these and other objects in view, our invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of our .device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in our claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the holder in its expanded form,
Figure 2 is a view of the holder when collapsed, and
Figure 3 is an end view of the holder as to a casket lid.
We have used the character In to designate substantially arcuate members which are pivoted at H to the extending bosses [2, the pivots being in the form of suitable rivets or any other applied arrangement, and also secured at the same pivoting points is the longitudinal strap member l3 to which is attached the upwardly extending pointed members l4.
Suitably pivoted by means of similar rivets at [5 to the members I I] are the further bars [6 which are parallel to the bar l3, and to which are also attached the upwardly extending pointed members 14.
Securely attached along the bottom surfaces H (see Figure 3) of the members [0 are the sponge rubber strips 18, these strips being comparatively soft and resilient, and being adapted to provide a firm frictional engagement with the curved lid [9 of a casket.
It will be seen that when this device is placed upon the casket, that it will be firmly held against displacement due to the frictional features of the strips l8, and the wreath 20 when placed upon the arrangement will be held from displacement by means of the points l4, so that as a result the wreath will be held in position even when the casket is inclined.
When not in use, the entire arrangement is collapsed as shown in Figure 2, and it will be noted that the staggered arrangements of the points as shown in Figure 1 will cause them to be directly lateral to each other when in this collapsed position. The positioning of the pivoting points is provided as shown, so that the bars .0 2,234, 2
I3 and I6 will be snugl engaged, and with the arrangement then being in its most compact form, the desirability of this collapsing feature being readily apparent.
It will now be seen that we have provided the various advantages set forth in the objects of our invention with various other advantages being readily apparent.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of our invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of our invention, and it is our intention to cover by our claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which maybe reasonably included within their scope.
We claim as our invention:
1. A wreath holder for caskets comprising two pairs of pivoted arms, each pair of which is mutually pivoted, said arms being curved to conform to a casket lid, bars pivotally attached between said arms having wreath holding points attachedthereto, there being a plurality of such bars, pivoting of the arms providing means for collapsing said holder, resilient and frictional strips attached beneath said arms to prevent displacement thereof when resting upon a casket lid, said bars being in parallel relation to each other when said Wreath holder is in its expanded position, and said bars being in continued parallel relation when said holder is collapsed.
2. A wreath holder for caskets comprising two pairs of pivoted arms, each pair of which is mutually pivoted, said arms being curved to conform to a casket lid, bars pivotally attached between said arms having wreath holding points attached thereto, there being a central bar and side bars, pivoting of the arms providing means for collapsing said holder, resilient and frictional strips attached beneath said arms and along the entire extent thereof to prevent displacement thereof when resting upon a casket lid, said bars being in parallel relation to each other when said wreath holder is in its expanded position, and said bars being in continued parallel relation y when said holder is collapsed, the pivoting points of said central bar being positioned at the sides of said pivoted arms whereby said arms and bars will collapse to a mutually abutting position.
