2 Claims. 1 This invention relates to a curtain, and more particularly to a curtain provided with a tie back. The object of the invention is to provide a tie back for a curtain which will maintain the curtain in gathered condition.

Another object of the invention is to provide a tie back for a curtain, the curtain including asubstantially vertical ruiiie and wherein the tie back will maintain the curtain in gathered position without passing around this ruffle.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a tie back for a curtain, the tie back including a tape or cord which is adapted to be attached to a fastening element to maintain the curtain in gathered condition. .y

A further object of the invention is.v to provide a curtain which is attractive and extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the curtain, according to the present invention;

Referring in detail of Figures 1 through 6, of the drawings, the numeral IIJ designates a body member which has its upper portion folded over as at II to define a compartment I2 for slidably receiving therein the usual suspending rod 9. A horizontally disposed ruie I3 is secured to the upper end of the body member I I), by suitable lines of stitching I4, there being a line of stitching I5 extending through the folded portion II and into engagement with the body member I0, Figure 3.

A substantially vertical ruffle I6 is secured to the outer edge of the body member I0 by means of suitable lines of stitching I'I and I8, Figure 4. 'Ihe curtain further includes a lower ruflle I9 which is secured to the bottom edge of the body member I 0. The present invention is directed to a curtain having a tie back for maintaining the curtain in gathered position as shown in Figures 6 and 7, and the tie back is so arranged and constructed whereby the curtain can be maintained in gathered position without the necessity of having the tie back cord or tape passing around the substantially vertical rule I6 so that the curtain will be attractively and efficiently held in gathered position.

The tie back includes a substantially U-shaped casing 20 which slidably receives therein the cord or tape 2I. The casing 20 is fabricated by folding a portion 22 of a strap and securing the strap in its folded position to the body member ID by means of a suitable line of stitching 23. A portion of the strap is provided with a ruiile 24, Figures 1 to 6, to enhance the appearance of the curtain. The casing 20 is inclined from the horizontal and extends from one vertical edge of the body member Ill to the inner edge of the substantially vertical rule It. In Figure 7, there is shown a slightly modified tie back casing which does not have the rule 24 thereon. Thus, there is shown a casing 25 which is plain, and the casing 25 functions in the same manner as the casing 20 of Figures 1 through 6.

From the foregoing, it is apparent that a curtain has been provided which includes a tie back for attractively and efficiently maintaining the curtain in gathered position as shown in Figure 6 or 7. Thus, the ends of the cord or tape 2| are tied to a fastening member such as a nail 26, which may be driven into a window frame B, the cord 2I having been previously drawn or pulled so that the curtain is in a gathered condition. The curtain can be maintained safely in this gathered condition and damage to the substantially vertical ruffle will be prevented since the cord 2I does not pass around the rufile i6.

What I claim is:

1. A curtain comprising a body member having its uppermost portion folded over and secured thereto to dene a compartment for receiving a suspending rod, a horizontally disposed ruilie secured to the upper end of said body member, a substantially vertical ruflle secured to said body member, an inclined casing extending between a vertical edge of said body member and the inner edge of said vertical rule, and a cord slidably arranged in said casing and adapted to have its ends secured to a fastening element for maintaining the curtain in gathered condition, said casing being substantially U-shaped and being fabricated by folding a portion of a strap againsi 3 the main portion thereof, said strap being secured to said body member.

A curtain comprising a body member having its uppermost portion folded over and secured thereto to dene a compartment for receiving a suspending rod, a horizontally disposed rufe secured to the upper end of said body member, a substantially vertical ruffle secured to said body member, an inclined casing extending between a vertical edge of said body member and the inner edge of said vertical rue, and a cord slidably arranged in said casing and adapted to have its ends secured to a fastening element for maintaining the curtain in gathered condition,
