AUXILIARY VOICE SCREEN FOR TELEPHONE MOUTHPIECES Filed April 1, 1949 INVENTOR. Irving Florman Patented Feb. 6, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE AUXILIARY VOICE SCREEN FOR "TELEPHONE MOUTHPIECES Irving Flor-man, New York, ,N. Y.
Application April 1, 1949, Serial No.'85;017
11 Claims.
The invention relates to attachments foritelezphone mouthpieces, and .more especially to at- :for this purpose have either been very icompli catedand expensive or have been1subiect to such vibration as todistort the voice of the speaker.
The primary 'obiect of the invention is to provideian attachment of this type which overcomes the disadvanta es of the prior arrangements.
.Another objectof the invention is to provide "an attachmentwhich is s mple and inex en ive,
"while yet being durable and'eas-y -to attach to" a phone.
Still anot er ob'i'ect of the invention'is to provide an attaehment which is arranged toprevent dist rbing vibrations.
A further obect of the in ention is to p ov de an "attachment which seats firmly on the o thp eee so that it is not likely to be accidentally dislodged.
Sti l a fu ther 'oh ect of the invention i o owide an attachment wh ch can 'be a l ed to a French or crad e t me t le hone itho t nterfering with the proper lay ng of the phone in the cra le whe it is not in use.
Further ohiects and ad anta es o th n ention will appear mo e f ll from thefo lo ing description especial y when taken in noninnetion with the aecompanyingdrawings which 'form a part th reof.
In the drawings:
'1 tea top p an view'of'an'attachmentem- "bodvin r my inv ntion:
Fig, 2 is-a-hnttnm plan view;
F g. 3 is a side elevation: and *Fig. 4 is a cross=section1suhstantiallyxon the line 44 of 1. showing the attachment applied to a mouthpiece.
The device as shown. includes a circumferenitiallv clo ed shield 2 ha in a'rcirci lar bottom edge 4 adapted to fit over the mouthpiece and having inwardly curved side walls. The sh eld is open at top and bottom. The left hand side wall (Fig. 4) is lower than the right hand wall, and is intended to be applied at the side of the mouthpiece next the handle. Along the inner face of the lower edge of the shield are spaced inwardly shoulders or lugs 5 adapted to engage in a groove 8 in the outside of the mouthpiece. On its outer face the higher wall has a rib Hi, this rib acting to stiffen the shield both to reinforce it and to prevent vibrations which might muflie and confuse the voice of the user.
.On its interior, and extending downward from its upper edge, the shield has vertical ribs l2, the lower edges of which, as shown in Fig. L engage the upper rim [4 of the mouthpiece. These ribs support a central ring l6, which rests onthe perforated port on [8 of the mouthpiece, preferably just outside the circular group .of perforations normally provided.
The whole device is preferably formed of a suitable plastic, such as a phenolformaldehyde resin, which has sufficient resiliency for the shoulders 6 to pass into the groove 8, thus holding the .attachment in position. Also. it is preferably cast in a single, integral piece. When so positioned, the attachment is firmly seated by the engagement of the ribs I2 and ring It with the mouthpiece. This prevents accidental dislodgement and rattling. The ribs impart sufficient rigidity to the shield to damp n its vibrations and thus to prevent muffling of the users voice.
While I have described herein one embodiment of myinvention. I wish it to be understood that I do not intend to l mit myself thereby except within'the scope of the claims hereto or hereinafter appended.
