Description

Feb. 6, 1951 R B. HoB-:IN 2,540,732
CIGARETTE HMIDOR WITH OPTIONALLY REMOVABLE INNER SHELL Filed D90. 27, 1946 IN VEN TOR.
- Patented Feb. 6, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CIGARETTE HUIVIIDOR WITH OPTIONALLY REMOVABLE INNER SHELL 4 Claims.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in cigarette humidors and has for its primary object a magic arrangement that permits the owner to get a cigarette at will While others who do not know its secret mechanical arrangement look on bewildered. This magic cigarette humidor will be attractive in appearance and can be sold at a relatively low price.
The above and other objects that will become apparent as this description proceeds are attained by means oi a construction and an arrangement of parts that will now be described in detail, and for this purpose reference will be had to the accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through my magic cigarette humidor.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 looking upward.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 looking down.
Fig. 4 is a front elevation.
In the drawings the base of the container has been represented by reference number i with tubing 2 pressed into the base. A cup 3 rests within the tubing 2. A wire 4 is connected t0 cup 3 forming a bail. An outer shell 5 slips over the tubing 2 and cup 3 and comes to rest on the base l. The lower part of a knob E protrudes through a small hole in the outer shell 5 and connects with a fastening device 'i by pressed fit so that when the knob E is turned the fastening device 'l also turns thereby hooking or releasing wire 4. A cork disc 8, containing seven small holes for passage of air, holds cigarettes above the water compartment 9.
By turning the knob. E one quarter turn, the cup 3 is either picked up or released. The cup contains cigarettes so when the outer Shell 5 is raised by a cigarette moocher he finds no cigarettes in the remaining container 2.
Although a specic embodiment of the invention has been particularly illustrated and described, it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as expressed in the following claims.
Having fully described my invention; I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States:
A cigarette humidor comprising a base, a cylinder mounted on and perpendicular to said base, a cigarette container removably mounted in said cylinder, a bail on said container, a domed shell mounted over said cylinder and supported on said base to conceal said cylinder, a stem passing through and rotatable in the dome of said shell, an inverted U-shaped lmember airlxed to the inner end of said stem whose legs are shaped to define oppositely fronting hooks and means on the outer end of said stem for actuating said U-shaped member to engage the hooks thereof with the container 1bail and to effect withdrawal of said container from said cylinder upon lifting said shell.
2. A cigarette humidor comprising a base and a cylinder mounted on said base, a cigarette container removably disposed in said cylinder, a bail on said container, a shell disposed removably on said base and embracing said cylinder, a ste-1n rotatably disposed in the top of said Shell, a member having oppositely disposed hooks aixed to the lower end of said stem and means on the upper end of said stem exteriorly of said shell for actuating said member to effect engagement of said hooks with the container bail and to remove said container within the confines of said shell when the latter is lifted from said base.
3. In a cigarette humidor, a base, a cylindrical member on said base, a cigarette container in said cylindrical member, a bail on said container, a shell supported on said base in concentric relation to said cylinder and container, an inverted U-shaped member rotatable in the top of said shell having oppositely disposed slots in the legs thereof adapted to engage the bail of said container and means eXteriorly of said shell for actu ating said U-shaped member and for lifting said shell from said base.
4. In a cigarette humidor, a base, a cylindrical `member mounted perpendicularly on said base,
a cigarette container removably mounted in said cylindrical member, a shell embracing said cylindrical member and supported on said base, a bail on said container nxed in upright position, a member having depending and oppositely fronting hooks rotatably disposed in the top of said shell and means exteriorly of said shell for rotating said member to bring the hooks thereof into engagement with the bail of said container at will to effect withdrawal of the container from said cylindrical member Within the confines of said shell when the latter is lifted from said base.
