TRICK-CASE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VICTOR G. WIoKBEnc, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenyon, in the county of Goodhue and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trick-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in trick cases, intended to hold various diflerent articles but especially adapted for cigars; and, to this end, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings:

Figure 1 is a view partly in elevation and partly in longitudinal central section;

Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line m m of Fig. 1, some parts being shown in different positions by means of broken lines;

Fig. 3 is a plan view of the case with the main drawer pulled out, some parts being shown in section; b

Fig. 4 is a view corresponding to view 3 with the exception that the supplemental or trick drawer is pulled out of the case and into the main drawer;

Fig. 6 is a View corresponding to Fig. 5 with the exception that the lock plate is shown in an operative position.

The numeral 1 indicates a sheet metal case open at one end and having at its closed end a pair of laterally spaced plates 2, which extend transversely of said case and afford, therebetween, a latch plate guide 3. The inner plate 2 is spaced apart from the closed end of case 1 to afford, therebetween, a cavity 4. A air of alined holes 5 is formed at the central portions of the plates 2.

Slidably mounted in the case 1 is a main drawer 6 open at its rear end and having on its bottom a stop flange 7, arranged to engage a stop bead 8 on the bottom of the case 1, when the main drawer 6 is drawn part way out, to limit its outward movement from said case. If it is desirable to completely remove the main drawer 6 from the case 1, the same may be done by lifting said main drawer above the bottom of the case 1,

a distance suflicient to carry the flange 7 above the head 8.

In the head of the main drawer 6 is an inner compartment 9 and an outer compartment 10, separated one from the other, by a perforated partition plate 11. Absorbent material 12, of any sultable kind, is placed within the inner compartment 9 for holding water or other liquid provided for keeping the interior of the case 1 moist. As the liquid evaporates, a new supply may be added from time to time by pouring liquid into the outer compartment 10 and allowin the same to seep through the perforated partition 11 onto the absorbent material 12.

A trick or supplemental drawer 13 is mounted for movement within the case 1 and main drawer 6 and has frictional sliding contact within said main drawer. The frictional contact between the two drawers is such that when the main drawer 6 is drawn out of the case 1, the supplemental drawer mounted therein, will also be drawn out of the case and from all appearances would seem to be a part of the main drawer 6.

To look the supplemental drawer 13 to the case 1, at will, and hence prevent its being withdrawn from the case 1, under the frictional contact between the two drawers, I provide a latch arranged to be actuated by turning the case 1 into different positions. This latch comprises a headed stud 14 and a latch plate 15. The headed stud 14 is rigidly secured to the inner end of the supplemental drawer 13, projecting rearward therefrom and, when the said supplemental drawer is within the case 1, projects through the alined holes 5 with its body portion extending transversely of the latch plate. guide 3 and with its head extending into the cavity 1. The latch plate 15 is slidably mounted in the guide 3 and one end thereof is bifurcated to afford a pair of diverging prongs 16, which straddle the headed stud 14: when the same projects through the alined holes 5.

Fig. 5 shows the case 1 turned into a position to cause the latch plate 15 to move into an inoperative position under the action of its own weight. In this position on the latch plate 15, the head of the stud 14 is free to move between the prongs 16, allowing the supplemental drawer 13 to be moved into and out of the case 1 while within the main drawer 6. Then by closing the main drawer and at the same time turning" the case 1 sufficiently to causethelatch plate 15 to move into'interlocking engagement with the headed stud 14, the supplemental drawer 13 is locked in the easel without attracting his friends attention to the operation. Upon again drawer 6, he shows his friend an empty case.
