This invention pertains to spectacle cases, wherein the spectacles are positioned medially on blocks secured within the pocket portions of said spectacle cases. t is the object of this invention to provide a block of novel construction adapted for use with spectacle cases, said block being practically indestructible in use and serving to facilitate the manufacture of the spectacle case with the block therein.

These and other advantageous objects, which will appear from the drawings and from the description hereinafter, are accomplished by the structure of my invention, of which an embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. it will be apparent, from a consideration of said drawings, and the following description, that the invention may be embodied in other forms suggested thereby. Such other forms as come within the scope of the appended claims are to be considered within the scope and purview of the instant invention.

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary, transverse, sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 5, showing the block in the pocket portion of the spectacle case, and

Fig. 5 is a top plan view of a spectacle case in which the block is positioned.

In Fig. 1 of the drawings, there is shown a blank it from which the block of my invention is made, said blank being preferably of metal or other material and having spaced front wall flanges H, H formed along one longitudinal edge thereof, and spaced rear wall flanges 2E], 25' formed along the opposite longitudinal edge thereof. The flanges I I, l l are provided at their inner ends with spaced, opposed arcuate portions l2, l2. The blank includes a medial portion [5 having a longitudinal edge M located between the arcuate portions i2, I2. The block is formed as shown in Fig. 2, by medially bending the blank to substantially U-shaped form to define an arcuate top 22 from which depend spaced parallel side walls 23, 23', the front wall flanges I I, l I being disposed at substantially right angles to said side walls and defining the front wall portion of the block, the

20, 20 being likewise disposed at substantially right angles to the side walls 23, 23' of the block and defining the rear wall portion of the block. The front and rear wall portions of the block are bent along lines I3, [3, 2|, 2|, so as to be angularly disposed downwardly and inwardly (see Fig. 4) to conform to the arcuate outline of the inner surface of the bottom of the pocket P of the spectacle case S. The front wall flanges H, i i are provided with semicircular recesses l6, l6 which, in the assembled block (see Fig. 2), define an opening I? through which the fastener element 2'? may be passed, said fastener element being projected through the wall of the pocket portion P of the spectaclecase s and engaging, and being secured to, the outer fastener element 23. The latter is adapted to have complementary engagement with the fastener 29 on the flap F of the spectacle case.

From a consideration of the drawings and the foregoing description, it will be apparent that the block may be readily manufactured at low cost and, even if made of comparatively light sheet metal, will have considerable inherent rigidity.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A block for spectacle cases constructed from a flat, bendable blank and having side wall portions and a medial portion therebetween and unitary therewith, and having spaced flanges along the longitudinal edges of said side wall portions bent in one direction at substantially right angles to the plane of said wall portions to definethe front and rear walls of said block, the opposed edges of said front wall flanges having complementary recesses defining an aperture through which a fastener element may be passed, said blank being bent medially longitudinally to position the side walls in spaced parallel relation with the medial portion defining the top of the block.

2. A block for spectacle cases constructed from a flat, bendable blank and having side wall portions and a middle portion therebetween and unitary therewith, and having spaced front Wall flanges along a longitudinal edge of said side wall portions bent in one direction at substantially right angles to the plane of said side wall portions to define the front walls of said block, said flanges being provided at their inner ends with complementary arcuate portions, said blank being bent medially longitudinally to substantially U-shaped form to define an arcuate top from which depend the spaced side walls, said arcuate top being of complementary outline to the said combined arcuate portions of said flanges.
