Description
Pfonfod Jon. 2, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFICE oLoTHESLINE f STENEB Samue P. D1'kinS, 1:IomeSfed,
ppHoffon Eebfnafy 2, 1949 Sefi1No. 74,060
1is invention relates to an inlproved fastenef, and pfifflafily designed and intended fof Seoufing clothes1ineS, it vvin be obviouS that the device fnay be eff1ployed for Seouring the tie fopeS of tenfs, tofpaulin covefs and the like, of fof any other pufposes Whefein it is found to be app1icable.
IInpoftant objeofS and advanfages of the in vention afe to p1'ovide a faSfenef of the chafactef desofibed, vvf1ich lflay be oonveniently eInployed for tenSioning and seoufing a olothesline to the Suppofting st1'11ctufeS, vvhioh vvi11 faoilitate and expedite the stringfng of a c1otheSline, Which vvi11 fndependently Inaintain eithef of a pair of exten- Sions of the c1otheSline oonnected thefeWith in the Seoured posifion in the event one of such paif of exfenSionS of clotheS1ine sho111d bfeak of part, Whioh is siInple in its construotion and affange ffent, dufable and efficient in its uSe, oon1paot, and con1pafatively econofnica1 in itS fnanufac tufe.
With the foregoing and other objects in view vvhich vvi11 appeaf as the deScfiption pfoceedS,
- the invention fesides in the nove1 oonstfuction,
coInbination and arrangefnent of parfs herein Speofncany desofibed and illuStfated in the ao ooInpanying draWing, buf it is to be undefStood that changes in the fofIn, propoftions and details of constfuction fflay be fesofted to that conle vvfthin the scope of the olaifn hereunto appended.
In the dfawing vvherein 1ike nunlefalS of fefef Refeffing in detail to the dfawing the in1 I proved faStenef ooInpfiSeS an integrally foffned body l, Whioh iS constructed of a stiff flat pfece of nletaL and Which iS generany ova1shaped in con flgufation, and pfefefably stan1ped to pfovide the fastener structure.
The body l is provided With a substantiaHy u-Shaped tensioning s1ot 2, and With a pair of vshaped holding S1otS, respectively indicated at 2 and 6. The tensioning slof 2 and the holding S1ot 3 are disposed in the outef end poftion of the body in spaced felation to eaoh othef, and the othef holding sot f is diSpoSed in the innef end portion of the body.
Tf1e fofInation nd Spaced relation of the ten Sioning slot 2 and holding S1ot 3 pfovide a steffl 5 thefebefveen. A head 6 is fofffled at the outef ffee end of the sten1 and iS pfovided With an apef ture f, by Which the faStenef nlay be engaged on a hook 3, of the like, that is fixed in any suit able Suppofting Stfuctufe like a poSf o1 the vva11 of a building.
The f1olding slof in the inner end poftion of fhe body l, extendS in oppoSed felation to the SIofS 2 and 3, and is disposed internlediafe of fhe latter approxinately at the longitudina1 centef of the body.
The botton1 3 of the tenSioning Slot 2 iS founded in the tfanSvefSe difectiof1 and pfefefably s1ight1y oufved in the1ongitudinal difeotion, and is fofnled by turningover or up-Setting a portion of the body nlofefial against the undef face of the body f as cleafly ShoWn if1 Figufes 1 and 2.
In Securing a clotheSline fe to the in1proved fasfeneT, the clotheS1ine iS fifst inserted doWn vvardly thfough the tensioning s1ot 2 and then dfawn to the tautness deSifed. The olothesline iS now inSerted upWardly through the innef holding slot 4, and is na11y inserted doWnWardly fhrough the holding S1ot 3. Suoh progfesSion of the olofheS1ine seoufing operation iS oleafly indi cated by affOWS in igufe 3.
Due fo the V-Sha ed fofInation of the holding S1ots 3 and the engaged poftion of the o1otheS 1ine ln Wi11 be secufely Wedged thefein againsf S1ippage in eithef direction, and oonsequently if one of the paif of extensions of the clotheSline should bfeak of paft, fhe other of Said pair of o1otheSIine extenSionS vvi11 be fffaintained in the Secufed poSition in the faStenef.
The confofInation of the botton1 9 of the ten sioning slof 2 iS an in1poftanf featufe of the fnvention, aS Such bottofn foffnation vvi11 pfevent daInage to the clotheSline While the latter is being draWn through said slot 2 to effecf the tonsioning of the clotheSline in the Inanner stated.
The fn0died foff of the invention, Shown in 'igufeS and 5, differS ffom the prefefred forn1 thereof abof e deScffbed, only in that a Sepafate oylindrfoal bottofn fnefnber iS pefnlanently Seoufed in the tenSioning slot l2 fof the purpoSe sef fo th.
In the n1odioafion illuStrated in Pigure 6, the bottofn 3 of the tenSioning s1ot l4 Sifnply oon1 pfiseS the single thioknesS of the body nfatefiaL h enlbodifnenf of the invention n1ay be en1- loyed in a satisfactor manner if the clothes1ine is tensioned by a u11 and then inserted in the tenSioIjng s1ot instead of draWing the c1othes 1ine across the S1()t botton1 |3 to eiTect the te11- sioning operation.
The resent invention rovides a most efcient device of its kind, Which may be economica11y con structed, and succesSfully and conveniently eIn ployed for the p 1poSeS and in the Inanner herein set forth.
A clothesline fastener coInpTiSing a at bod, said body being rovided with a SubstantiaH U-shaped tensioning Slot and With air Df VShapedho1ding slotS extending in o posed Te1a tion to each other, an apertured head formed Et one end of said body for attaching the late1 tl) a Supporting stTucture, and a cylindrica1 nleInber SecuTed at the bottom of said tensioning slot to pTovide a rounded botton1 extending in the tranS verse direction in said tensioning slot.
