2 olaims. (cl. 1894255) The present invention relates to spent bobbin discharge means for bobbin changing lo'oms.
In bobbin changing looms, it is customary to pact with which said bobbin is discharged into the receiver.
Various other objects are apparent from the following description and from inspection of the following drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the right-hand battery side of the loom and shows in connection therewith an embodiment of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a detailed section of the loom taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 showing details of the embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown the right-hand loomside l U on the battery side of the loom and a lay H reciprocable backwardly and forwardly and adapted to carry on said battery side a Shuttle box (not shown) for receiving a Shuttle (not shown) on alternate beats of the loom. The Shuttle box is secured to the top lay plate and may be of the conventional type or may be of the improved type shown and described in copending application Serial No. 691,338, filed August 17, 1946.
Secured to the lay ll and depending from the shuttle box is a forwardly and downwardly in- During filling replenishing operation, the spent bobbin is pushed downwardly out of the shuttle by the incoming full bobbin and passes through a slot in the shuttle box base plate through an opening in the lay I! and into the guide chute 20. The ejected bobbin is guided downwardly and forwardly in the chute and towards the mouth of a delivery conduit 22 extending in an inclined direction forwardly and downwardly towards a receptacle 23.
As far as certain aspects of the invention are concerned, the bobbin guide chute 20 may be of conventional construction but is d'esirably of the improved type shown and describedv in said' copending" application Serial No. 691,338.
The delivery' conduit 22 is secured to the loomside' I 0, as for example, by bol-ts 25' and is` off substantially oblong rectangular cross-'section elongated ina horizon-tal direction to conform with the elongated shape of the ejected bobbin. The conduit 22 desirably tapers towards its outlet end by progressively reducing its height as said outlet end is approached and contains in the interior thereof a bumper 26 for slowing up the ejected bobbin as it travels along said conduit, so that it will be deposited in the receptacle 23 without creating undue impact noises or injuring said receptacle or the bobbin. The bumper 26 is in the form of a curtain sheet made of flexible resilient material such as leather and depending downwardly in the conduit 22 across the path of travel of the spent bobbin in its descent through said conduit. For supporting the bumper 26 in position for easy mounting and replacement when worn, its upper section 21 passes through a slot 28 in the upper wall 30 of the delivery conduit 22 and is removably fastened to said conduit wall by bolts 3|.
To permit the bumper 26 to yield more readily to the impact of the descending bobbin, its depending section 32 is vertically slit into narrow strips 33 up to the upper conduit wall 30. The upper bolted section 21 of the bumper 26 remains continuous and unslitted.
The receptacle 23, into which the spent bobs bin at reduced speed is discharged from the conduit 22, is in the form of a can removably supported on the loomside IO through catches 4!! and is provided with a suitable handle 4| by which the full receptacle may be manipulated for removal from the loom.
In operation, the lay II is reciprocated between the positions shown in full lines and dot and dash lines indicated in Fig. 2 during normal Operations. When filling replenishment is indicated, a full bobbin is transferred from the magazine into the shuttle in the shuttle box. During this transfer operation, the spent bobbin in the shuttle is ejected by the force of the full bobbin as it is being transferred into said Shuttle. This transfer takes place while the lay I is in front center position shown in full lines in Fig. 2. In this position of the lay II, the chute 26 will be in position to discharge the ejected spent bobbin from said chute directly into the mouth of the delivery conduit 22. The ejection of the spent bobbin from the shuttle takes place with such force, that the spent bobbin will have substantial speed as it is discharged into the delivery conduit 22. This speed is reduced by the cushioning effect of the bumper 26, so that the spent bobbin A, will have its speed substantialiy reduced as it is discharged into the can 23 and will drop downwardly thereinto With minimum of impact.
While the invention has been described With particular reference to a specific embodiment, it is to be understood that it is not to be limited thereto but is to be construed broadly and restricted solely by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a loom having means for ejecting the spent bobbins from a Shuttle box, the combination comprising a receptacle for receiving the ejected spent bobbins, a delivery oonduit for the ejected bobbins between said Shuttle box and said receptacle, and bumper means in said conduit for retarding the speed of the bobbins in their course towards said receptacle and comprising a fiexible resilient curtain Sheet depending from the top wall of said conduit and secured at its upper edge to said top conduit Wall, said curtain sheet being slit downwardly from its upper section to form a series of yieldable adjoining strips.
2. In a loom having means for ejecting the spent bobbins from a Shuttle box, the combination comprising a receptacle for receiving the ejected spent bobbins, guide means for conducting the ejected spent bobbins from said Shuttle box to said receptacle, and bumper means disposed across the path of said bobbins through said guide means for retarding said bobbins, said bumper means being in the form of a depending curtain Sheet having a continuous upper end anchored to said guide means and slit down- Wardly from said upper end to form a series of yieldable adjoining strips adapted to contact the full length of said bobbins in their course to- Wards said receptacle.
