1 Claim.

This invention relates to golf clubs.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a combined golf club head which serves as a putter and a jigger or putting cleek by simply reversing the head piece upon the handle.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a combined golf club head which can be inserted upon the handle in either of two positions to obtain either a putter or a jigger and wherein this change is effected without changing the weight of the club.

It is still another object of the present invention to provide an adjustable club which will serve both a right handed player and a left handed player.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a reversible golf club head and handle construction which is of simple design, easy to be reversed, inexpensive to manufacture and eflicient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the golf club head assembled to the handle or shaft and looking upon the putter face.

Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view as shown in Fig. 1 with the head reversed and looking upon the jigger or putting cleek face.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lower end of the shaft to which the head is attached.

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the head removed from the shaft.

Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively opposite end elevational views of the head assembled to the shaft.

Fig. '7 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view taken on line 'l'! of Fig. 6.

Referring now to the figures, 10 represents a shaft having a goose neck formation or shank base ll thereon with a dovetail guide l2 over which is extended a combined putter and jigger head l3. This head [3 has a dovetail slot l4 and can be slid endwise from either end over the dovetail guide l2 on the goose neck ll. As the head is secured tothe goose neck as shown in Fig. 1 a straight or putter face I6 is provided for a right handed player. By removing the head and securing it as shown in Fig. 2, a jigger or putting cleek is made presentable for use by the right handed player. The face l'l extends at an angle of seventy degrees upwardly from the fiat bottom face. The putter face extends perpendicularly or ninety degrees from the bottom face.

Within the bottom of the guide 12, is a recess I8 for receiving a detent ball 19 carried on the head 13. This hall is urged outwardly by a detent spring 2|. The head l3 will accordingly be retained upon the goose neck ll against longitudinal displacement. To remove the head some force is required in order to overcome the frictional engagement of the detent with the recess l8. The detent ball 19 will enter the recess l8 regardless of the manner in which the head is disposed upon the goose neck ll.

Inasmuch as the head makes possible a club which can be used by either right handed or left handed players, the dealers will only have to keep stock of the one club.

The guide or slide formation and the slot adapted to fit the same can be of any shape or section while still permitting the head to be inserted upon the guide from its opposite end and in a reverse manner.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

I claim:

In a reversible golf club head, the combination which comprises a shaft having a substantially right angularly disposed base with a longitudinally disposed tongue having outwardly diverging side surfaces depending therefrom on the lower end thereof, a solid massive head extended the full length of the base and having a longitudinally disposed groove with inwardly converging sides positioned and secured in position on the said base of the shaft by the coacting tongue and groove of the base and head, respectively, the under surface of the tongue of the base having a recess therein and said head having an opening therein in registering relation with the recess of the base, a ball mounted in the opening of the head and positioned to "coact with the recess of the base for retaining the head on the base, and a spring in the said opening in the head for urging the ball into the said recess of the tongue of the base.
