TRACING-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part-of Letters Patent No. 252,908, dated January 31, 1882.
application filed December 14, 1881. (No model.)
- tion, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and u-e the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a top view, and Fi cal sectional View.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Thisinvention relatesto what Iterm a tracing-table for the use of architects and others in making tracin s or copies of drawings, as well as for the amusement and instruction of children in lea'ining drawing and penmanis a vertiship; and it consists in an improved construe-- tion and arrangement of parts, which ill be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the Claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A repre sents a box or case consisting of a bottom, B, and sides (3, which have flanges or ledges to support the top I), which consists of a sheet or pane of glass. The box or case A may, as in the drawings, be supported upon legs E, so as to form a table of the proper height; or the said legs may be dispensed with, and the box may in practice simply be' placed upon an ordinary table.
The side of box A is provided at one end with a hinged door, I to admit a lamp, G, which may be an ordinary suitably-constructed coal-oil lamp. may at this point be recessed or provided with anopening, H, and the lamp supported upon a suitable shelf attached to the door, or be placed in a chamber or closet Formed under the bottom of the table and constructed in any suitable manner. The top ofthetable is to be provided with an opening, I, for ventilation.
The end of the table at which the lamp is arranged has slanting or diagonal sides J, which may be provided with mirrors or reflect- The bottom of the table ors K, so arranged as to throw the light up against the under side of the glass D.
Lisa shade consisting of a piece of short metal, provided at itsloweredge with atlauge, M, having notches N. The top of the box is provided, closely adjoining the opening I, with studs 0, upon which the shade may be adjusted, as shown, with a portion projecting over the glass top D, which may thus be locked or held in place. The shade L serves to screen the top of the table from light, and also serves to prevent paper and drawing materials from being pushedovcr the flame of the lamp arranged below.
The upper edges of the sides of the table may he graduated or subdivided into inches, &c., to assist or facilitate in measurements.
From the foregoingdescription, taken in connection with the drawings her'eto annexed, the operation of my invention will be readily understood. By placing a lighted lamp in its proper position, as indicated in the drawings, and thework upon the glass top D, the work is illuminated from below, and copies or tracings may be made upon comparatively thick paper, especially if the room in which the device is used be darkened. When not in use the paper and drawing materials maybe placed for safe keeping in the box A by raising the top I).
This device is exceedingly simple and convenient, and may be manut'actured at a small (JOSE.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' the United States- 7 1. The combination, with the box or case -A, having glass top 1), opening I, and door F,
nal sides J, with the lamp G and the mirrors or reflectors K, substantially as 'and for the purpose set forth.
4.. The box or table A, having a glass top, D, and graduated sides, in combination with bhelamp G, substantially as set forth.
5. The herein-described tracing-table, con- 5 sisting of the box or case A, having a glass top, 1), opening I, studs O,door Rand graduated sides, in combination with the lamp Gr, mirrors or reflectors K, and shade L, having notched flange M, substantially as and for the 10 purpose shown and speeilied.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 'my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in presence of twowltnesses.
NATHAN SOLT.
