By such an arrangeto ment a part of the light from the bulbs will extend upwardly and engage the glass 19 and by its forward side being roughened it will be diffused by virtue of refraction of light rays toward the paper 20, thereby illuminatlng the same with a very pleasing glow which will be easily seen through the plain glass 18. By the character strokes on the paper being of solid color the same will act as insulation against the illumination radiating from the paper 20 at such points, thereby making the indicia on the paper easily readable. If it is desiredthe lower portion of the bulbs 15 may be colored as shown in Fig. 2. By the light passing through the lower portion of the bulbs into the show-case, the show-case will be illuminated with a color corresponding to the color placed or painted on the bottom of the bulbs, while light illuminating the advertising in' the frame 17 will be of a normal white glow. If it is desired to have the illumination from the frame 17 in color effect, the translucent paper 20 may be tinted with the desired color. The numeral 23 designates a stand or rack that may be secured to the base 10 as shown in Fig. 1, for supporting and displaying merchandise such as neckties and the like.

Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of'my improved Advertisin Device without departing from the real splrit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical e uivalents which may be reasonably inclu ed within their scope.

I claim:

1. In a device of the class described, a hollow base member open at its bottom and to and having its sides flared downwardly an outwardly, a means of illumination inside said base, a frame secured to said base and above the opening in the top of said base, a 85 sheet of plain lass in said frame, a second sheet of glass 1n said frame, back of said first mentioned glass and having its side adjacent said first mentioned glass of an irregular and rou h condition for diffusing 90 and refracting hght rays, a sheet of nontransparent material in said frame and back of said last mentioned sheet of glass, a sheet of translucent material between said two mentioned sheets of glass having indicia thereon, and a display rack-secured on said base member; said parts being of such character that the lower ma 'nal edges of the two sheets of glass, sheet 0 translucent material and sheet of non-transparent material completely close the opening in the top of said ase member.

2. In a device of the class described, a hollow base member open at its bottom and top, a means of illumination inside said base, a vertical sheet of plain glass above the opening in the top of said base, a second vertical sheet of lass above the opening in the top of said ase, back of said first-mentioned glass, a sheet of non-transparent material back of said last-mentioned sheet of glass, a sheet of translucent material between said two mentioned sheets of glass having indicia thereon, and a dis lay rack secured on said base; said parts bemg of such character that the lower marginal edges of the two sheets of glass, sheet of translucent material and sheet of non-transparent material completely close the opening in the top of said base member.

In a device of the class described, a hollow base member open at its bottom and top and having its sides flared downwardly and outwardly, a means of illumination inside said base, a frame secured to said base and above the opening in the top of said base, a sheet of plain glam detachably secured in said frame, a second sheet of glass detachably secured in said frame, back of said first-mentioned glass and having its side adjacent said first-mentloned glass of a roughened condition diffusing and refracting light rays, a detachable sheet of non-transparent material in said frame and back of said last-mentioned sheet of glass, and a detachable sheet of translucent material between said two mentioned sheets of glass having indicia thereon; said parts being of such character that the lower marginal edges of the two sheets of glass, sheet of translucent material, and sheet of non-transparent material completely close the opening in the top of said base member. 4. In a device of the class described, a hollow base member open at its bottom and top and having its sides flared downwardly and outwardly, a means of illumination inside said base, a frame secured to said base and above the opening in the top of said base, a sheet of plain glass in said frame, a second sheet of glass in said frame, back of said first-mentioned-glass and having its side adjacent said first-mentioned glass of an irregular and rough condition for difiusing and refracting light rays, a sheet of nontransparent material in said frame and back of said last-mentioned sheet of glass, a sheet of translucent material between said two mentioned sheets of glass having 'indicia thereon, a colored transparent member between the lower marginal edges of said two sheets of glass and the inside of said hollow base member, and a display rack secured on said base member; said parts being of such character that the lower marginal edges of the two sheets of glass, sheet of translucent material and sheet of non-transparent material completely close the opening in the top of said base member.

5. In a device of the class described, a hollow base member open at its bottom and top and having its sides flared downwardly and outwardly, a means of illumination inside said base, a frame secured to said base and above the opening in the top of said base, a

sheet of plain glass in said frame, a second sheet of glass in said frame, back of said first-mentioned glass and having its side adj acent said first-mentioned glass of an irregular and rough condition for difi'using and refracting light rays, a sheet of non-transparent material in said frame and back of said last-mentioned sheet of glass, a sheet of translucent material between said two mentioned sheets of glass having indicia. thereon, a resilient member on the bottom of said base member for holding said base member a slight distance from a supporting surface, and a display rack secured on said base member;

said parts being of such character that the lower marginal edges of the two sheets of glass, sheet of translucent material and sheet of non-transparent material completely close the opening in the to of said base member.
