CHARLES D. STONE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMBINED STAlR-CARPET FASTENER AND STAlR-ROD SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,850, dated January 24, 1882,
Application filed November 25, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES D. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stair-Carpet Fasteners, of which the following. is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view showing my stair-carpet fastener and stair-rod fixture. Fig. 2 shows it as applied for holding a stair-rod. Fig. 3 is a detailed view thereof, showing it capable of adjustment to carpets or stairs of different widths; and Fig. 4 is a modification of my invention.
In this class of devices accommodation to stairs or carpets of different widths, and capability Of putting down stair-carpets without rods, while permitting of their use, are very desirable, lessening expense and labor in carpeting the stairs. To effect these is the object of my invention, which consists of hook-shaped brackets, either with or wilhouteyes, to receive or hold stair-rods, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a bracket, A, formed of metal, or a wire doubled together, having screw-holes a a at one end, and turned over and brought back to a point to form a sufficiently lengthened or sized hook to retain the edge 01' the carpet inserted thereunder. To permit of the use of stairrods', if desired, each bracket is provided with an eye or socket, A, to receive the rod. These brack- (No model.)
ets may be placed at any distance apart to accommodatecarpets orstairs of difierent widths, and by their construction (being open at their inner ends) they admit the ready insertion of the edges of the carpet thereunder, thereby facilitating and lessening the labor of putting down the carpet.
It will be understood thatl do not limit myself to the construction of the brackets, as described, in the formation therewith of the rodeyes, as they may be made as shown in Fig. 4.
Having thus fully described myinvention, claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent' 1. The stair-carpet fastener consisting of bracket A, formed of a wire doubled together and having screw-holes a a, thence turned over and brought back to overhang the shank, substantially as set forth.
2. In a stair-carpet fastener and stair-rod fixture, an arm which extends inwardlytooverhang the carpet, and thence outwardly, forming a socket or eye to receive. astair-rod, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The stair-carpet fastener and stair-rod liX- ture consisting of bracket A, lormed of a wire doubled together and having screw-holesw a, thence turned over and brought back to overhang the shank, and terminating in an ey e, A, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES D. STONE.
