G. W. RICHARDSON.
AGITATOR OR EGG BEATER.
No. 252,800. Patented Jan. 24,1882.
WITNE$SES INVENTOE ATTORNEYQ.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
GU S. W. RICHARDSON, OF HILL GROVE, KENTUCKY.
AGlT/lTOR OR EGG-BEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,800, dated January 24;, 1882. Application filed December 20, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gus. W. RICHARDSON, of Hill Grove, in the county of Meade and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Agitator or Egg-Beater; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved agitator or egg-beater. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the agitator-wheels. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the base-flange, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of theagitator-wheels.
My invention relates to improvements in agitators or egg-boaters; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, it represents a circular vertical flange or annulus, provided with the cross-bars b b at right angles to each other, and secured to the inner face of the flange a at their outer ends and to each other at the center of the annulus or flange a. The cross-bars I) Dare. diameters of the annulus or flange, and serve as heaters in the vertical reciprocations of the device, as hereinafter set forth, and also at theiujunctiou with each other serve as a support for the hollow vertical step c, in which the lower end of the vertical shaft (1 of the agitators has its lower bearing, the upper end of the agitatorshaft (I having its bearing in a holeinthe lower end of the handle 6.
h represents an agitator composed of an outer vertical flange or ring, h, a hub, h provided with a central hole for the passage of the agitator-shaft d, and radial vanes h all inclined at the same angle, the outer ends'of the vanes being secured to the inner circumference of the vertical flange h, the inner ends of the vanes being secured to the hub ]L2.
2' represents a short cylinder provided with a central longitudinal hole or opening. The cylinder 2' is slipped on the agitator-shaft d, its lower end resting on the hub b of the agitator h, and its upper end supporting the upper agitator, it, of precisely the same construction as the lower agitator, I1, excepting that its diameter is less and its vanes are inclined in an opposite direction, so that in the vertical reciprocations of the cone the agitators will revolve in opposite directions.
l represents a cone, provided with a circular vertical flange or base, I, of slightly greater diameter than the circular flange a, and having angular recesses 1 forming a bayonet-fastening, with pins m secured to the sides of the circular vertical flange a. By this construction the cone Z can readily be secured to and detached tron] the annulus or flange a, and the agitators removed for cleaning them or other purposes. The circular base-flange l and the cone 1 are provided with a series of openings,
'1 leading into the agitators h k and into the interior of the cone. 7
n represents a tube inserted in a circular hole made in the apex of the cone. The tube nis open at both ends, and extends a short distance above the apex of the coneand down into its interior, and is supported by a horizontal diaphragm secured to the interior of the cone and tube a.
The handle 0 is made to tit into the tube a and extends to the lower end of said tube, and is piovidrd at itslowcr end with a hole which :GIVCS as a bearing for the upper end of the agitator-shaft (I, as before described. By the employment of acone in lieu of a cylinder, as heretofore employed, the handle is braced from every direction, and the cone can more readily be raised in the fluid in which it vertically reciprocates than it made cylindrical, and the parts are easily separated for cleaning or other purposes.
What I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the perforated cone 1, provided with the perforated base-flange 1, having angular recesses l and tube a at its apex for the reception of the handle 6, of the annulus a, provided with the pins m, and cross-bars b, supporting the step c, and agitators h k, adapted to revolve in opposite directions, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
, GUS. W. RICHARDSON.
