VIOLIN..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,744, dated January 24,1882.
Application filed November 30, 1881.
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS B. DENNYs, ot' Singapore, Straits Settlements, have invented an Improved Silent Violin, of which the Afollowing is a specification.
The object of this invention is to furnish a musical instrument which, though plainly audible tothe player, cannot be heard at a short distance, thus enabling amateurs and learners to practice without inconvenience to others.
ln the drawings, Figure l is a rear view of the instrument with lthe back partially removed to show the interior. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on line ae :e of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the instrument.

The front or fave consists of a substantial board or strip, A, of wood, out and molded in the shape of a violin, and provided with scroll a, linger-board b, bridge o, and tail-piece d, of,
usual character.
To the board A sides e are attached, and to these sides a back board,j`, is attached, thus forming a box. This box is tlled with cork shavings or other non-vibrating material, except at the center, which is divided oftl by partitions g g, to serve as a convenient receptacle (No model.)
