Application February 23, 1946, Serial No. 649,459
- This invention relates "to improvements in combs, and more particularly to a two-part comb which may be readily cleaned by separating said parts and holding the'same under a hot water faucet.
An object of the invention is to provide a twopart comb which will be hinged together and provide a comb construction which will be formed with alternate teeth on the opposite comb sections.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved comb construction including two comb segments having spaced teeth on the segments so arranged that when the comb sections are snapped together, the teeth will be arranged alternately on the opposite comb sections.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved two-part comb having a concealed spring whereby the parts of the comb may be snapped together for use, and may be readily separated and held under a hot water faucet when it is desired to clean th comb.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved two-part comb which will be highly efficient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application,
Figure l is a side elevation of the improved two-part comb;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the improved comb;
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the rear comb teeth;
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the rear comb piece;
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the front comb member;
Figure 6 is a top plan view of the front comb member;
Figure '7 is a partial transverse sectional view taken through the middle of the comb sections and showing the sections in dotted lines in open position;
Figure 8 is an exploded view of the two hinged elements;
Figure 9 is a :plan view of the two hinged elements secured together, and
Figure 10 is a sectional view through a portion of one of the comb sections and spring elements, showing the rivet for holding the same together.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accom- V goiaims. (01. 132-11) 2: panying' drawing to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved comb construction which includes a rear comb member I and a front comb member 2, the same being secured together by the centrally disposed hinge, generally denoted by the reference numeral 3. s
The terminal ends 4 and 5 of the rear comb section I are considerably enlarged and are formed with rounded ends for safety, so that when the comb is being used the end portions of the comb will not injure the scalp. Positioned along the length of the comb between the end members 4 and 5 of the rear comb section I are a plurality of double spaced depending comb teeth 6, which cooperate with the depending double spaced comb teeth I upon the front comb member 2.
The central portions of both the rear comb section I and the front comb section 2 are recessed as at 8 to provide space for the reception of the cooperating hinge elements 9 and I0, said element 9 being provided with the spaced upwardly extending ears ll adapted to receive the oppositely extending pivot pins ['2 formed on the hinge section l0, said pivots I2 being adapted to be received within the pivot openings [3 formed in the oppositely disposed ears II.
The hinged ends of the hinge members 9 and II] will be disposed at the upper portion of the comb sections, as clearly illustrated in Figure 7 of the drawing, and will be secured to the adjacent comb section by means of the headed rivets l4 extending to said sections of the hinge and of the comb. The lower ends l5 and I6 of the hinge sections are curved'to form a snap fastener which will hold the comb sections together when the teeth are brought into alignment with each other.
The notches I! and I8 are formed in the outer surfaces of-the rear comb section I and the front comb section 2, respectively, and are provided for the reception of a thumb nail for pullingthe sections apart when it is desired to clean the same.
From the drawings it will be apparent that the terminal ends 4 and 5 of the rear comb section are considerably thicker than the intermediate portions of the said section, so that when the front section 2 of the comb is in position, its outer edge will lie flush with the adjacent end portion of the said rear comb section I.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that there has been provided a, highly sections and the said sections will be separated,
as shown in Figure 7 of the drawings, and held under a hot water faucet until the same is thor-' oughly cleaned; I
While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and described, it
will be understood that it is not intended to limit? v the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor:- changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of: the invention. 7
Having thus described my invention what I Patent of the United States is:
p 1. A: sectional comb: construction comprising ;a.- first comb section having a body portion, and a plurality of. depending teeth;.a. secondcomb section having a body; portion and a plurality of teeth, said body portions being; associated to gather" for face: to -face engagement and 1 having. registerable I centrally disposedrecesses, flexiblemembers mounted in': said recesses and. hinged together; at their upper-ends; cooperating clamping meansintegrally extending from the-lowerends of, said membersior-lock-ing said sections together and means formedwin the outer: surfaces of i said sections for; opening said. sectionsand disengaging; said: clamping; means.
2,624,038 I v.11.- Ip 1 4 2. A sectional comb construction comprising a first section and a second section hingedly associated therewith for face-to-face contact, said sectionshaving adjacent registerable transverse recesses on their inner faces which register when the faces ar brought into contact, flexible members vertically mounted in said recesses and hingedly secured together at their upper ends, inturned complementary cooperating lower clamping terminais on; the; lower ends of said members for-locking the two sections together and notches formed in the outer surfaces of said sectionsto provide finger-grip openings.
