TWIN BED STRUCTURE 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Nov. 16, 1945 Patented Sept. 26, 1950 lTED STATES PTENT OFFICE TWIN BED STRUCTURE Martin Fox, Chicago, 111;, assignor to The Seng Company, a corporation of Illinois Application November 16, 1945, Serial No. 629,110
3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a twin bed structure, sometimes known as a Hollywood bed.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a sturdy construction wherein a pair of three legged beds have their outer head portions pivotally connected to a single head board, which serves as a fourth leg for each of the beds. The connections are pivotal, so that the beds mayv be swung out from juxtaposition to facilitate making the beds.
Another object of the invention is to provide a structure wherein the three legs of each of the twin beds are provided with casters, so that they may be rolled apart on their pivots with the head board, without disturbing the position of the head board.
The invention is illustrated in a preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a bed structure embodying the invention; Fig. 2, a side elevational view of the same; Fig. 3, an elevational view from the foot of the bed; Fig. 4, a fragmentary sectional view, taken as indicated at line 4 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5, a fragmentary vertical sectional view, taken as indicated at line 55 of Fig. 4.
In the embodiment illustrated, a head board 6 is adapted to rest on the floor and is provided at its outer end portion with brackets l permanently secured thereto. The head board is provided near its central portion with a stop member 8 adapted to be engaged by corners of the bed frames 9 when they are swung to juxtaposition.
Each of the twin beds has a rectangular frame made of angle iron, and is provided at its foot portion with rigid leg members l0, provided with ordinary casters H. The inner head portions of the bed frames 9 are also provided with legs 12 having casters [3. The outer head portions of the frames are provided wth metal brackets 14 which are apertured to receive vertical pintles I5, which impale the brackets l in the head frames 6.
It will be understood that each of the bed frames may be provided with separate box springs and mattresses, indicated by dotted lines at 16 in Figs. 2 and 3, and with pillow bolsters I1. One
corner of each of the bed frames is supported by a pivotal connection with the head board 6, and these same pivotal connections serve to hold the head board in vertical position. The two beds may be swun together, as indicated in Fig. 1, so as to save space and give the appearance of a double bed. However, to facilitate making the beds, they may be swung apart, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The foregoing detailed description is given for clearness of understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, for some modifications will be obvious to those skilled in the art.
I claim:
1. In combination: a head board; and a pair of similar rectangular bed frames each having one head corner portion pivotally connected to and carried by an outer end portion of said head board; and each of said frames havin supporting legs at its other three corner portions.
2. In combination: a pair of bed frames, each of said frames being provided with three supporting legs; and a head board hinged to one outer corner of each of said bed frames and serving to support those corners of the bed frames and said bed frames serving to hold said head board in upright position.
3. Bed structure as specified in claim 2, in which the six legs are provided with casters and the head board rests on the floor.
MARTIN FOX.
