' This invention belongs to that class of devices whichare designed to cover or guard a circular saw, and not only protect the operator from harm, but, also prevent the throwing off of pieces of wood, slivers, 850., while sawsupports on the beam ing is going on.

The invention consists in the detail of the means used to adjust and fix the guard in any desired vertical position, all as will now be fully explained. I

have a spring attached to it to insure its engaging with the teeth of the wheel e. The shield may be a semi-hemispherical case open at the base, as now shown, or of any suitable shape or construction.

This device, as thus made, can be operated very easily to set it either up or down, while it will be securely held at any point desired.

I am aware that heretofore several devices having the same general ends in view as I have explained have been made and used; but none of them are made or operated as I have above described, or in as simple and easy manner.

Having thus described my invention, what I consider new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The saw guard or shield-D, having the rack 01 on its stem (1, combined with beam 0, shaft E, cog-wheels e and e, and pawl F, substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
