UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ASA CHANDLER HINSON, OF PIDCOOK RANGH, TEXAS.
STOCK FOR PLOW-TRUCKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,218, dated January 10, 1882.
Application filed May 24, 1881. (No model.)
To. all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ASA CHANDLER HINsON, of Pidcook Ranch, in the county of (Joryell and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Stock for Plow-Trucks; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the same.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved stock and suitable devices for contion of the same with one of the wheels removed.
The running-gear consists of an axle, A, wheels B, a tongue, (3, connected to the axle by hounds 0, and bolster l), in a well-known manner.
Aseat, E,and foot-board F maybe attached 2 to one of the bounds, or to the tongue, in such position as to properly balance the plow by the weight of the driver. A stock is formed of two beams, G G, bolted together at their rear ends and united to the axle at their front ends by hinged connections in apeeuliar manner. The hinges are each formed of a plate, H, secured to the upper side of the stock and formed into an eye, h, at its front end. The other portion of the hinge is formed by an ear-plate, I, socured to the axle by a clip, I, of well-known construction, that embraces three sides of the axle, and is held in place by bolts t upon the fourth side. The ear-plates I are perforated in a number of places, one above the other, to receive a bolt, K, that passes through the hingejoint of the plates H from one ear-plate to the other. By placing the bolt K in the upper or lower perforations the height of the hinge may be regulated to suit axles of different heights from the ground, and the clips may be shifted upon the axle to suit plows of various sizes.-
The plow-beam L is securely bolted or otherwise attached to the beam G of the stock, so as to be held in the line of draft; The upper andrear end of the beam G is provided with an eye-bolt, to which is connected the end of an iron chain, M, the other end of which is contaohcd directly to the clevis l of the plow when theplow is in use, and is connected to a hook, 0, beneath the tongue of the vehicle when the plow is not in use in traveling.
The operation ot'the device will be readily understood from the foregoing. One ofthe horses Wallis in the furrow, and the plow may be adjusted to out much or little.
What I claim as new isa The combination, with the stock G G, plowbeam L, and axle A, of the plates having eyes It, the ear-plates I, having a series of perforations, the clips I, connected at their ends by bolts 'i, and the boil; it, as and for the purpose specified.
ASA CHANDLER HINSON.
