Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in jacks and more particularly to a vehicle jack for use with trucks or other motor vehicles. 1
. An important object of the invention is to pro vide a heavy duty jack of this character einbodying a screwoperated means whereby the jack. may be raised with comparatively little effort.
-A further object of the invention is to provide a jack including a ioad supporting platiormraised and lowered by lift arms arranged in crossed relation with respect to each other and connected at their lower ends to a telescoping or extensible frame operated by the screw in a retracting movement to raise the platform.
-A further object of the invention is to provide a collapsible inverted V-shaped brace for the lift arm and which is moved into its raised and lowered positions with the lift arms by the telescoping movement oi theframe.
A still -iurther object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construc-v tion, which is strong and durable, relatively inex-- pensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details or construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being hadL to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the jack frame generally and which comprises iront and rear U-shaped telescoping frame members 5 and l, the frame member l being of tubular construction to telescopiv cally receive the sides of the frame member 6 in a sliding movement into its extended and re-A tracted positions.
A screw B has its rear end welded or otherwise suitably secured to the central portion of the rear frame member l, and extends forwardly in the plane thereof and is slidably received in a sleeve 9 carried at the central portion of front frame member 5. A nut it is threaded on the front end of screw 8 in engagement with the front end oi sleeve 9 and the iront end of nut Iii is formed with a ratchet wheel l! including the ratchet teeth i2. A handle i3 is provided at its inner end with a Ushaped yoke i0. having its open end pivoted on nut it with parallel side portions I5 positioned at opposite sides of the teeth i2 as shown more clearly in Figure 5 of the drawings to hold the yoke on the nut during its pivotal movement. A reversible dog I5 is pivoted between the side portions of yoke iii by means or' a transverse pin Il and. is held in oppositely swung positions engaged with the teeth l2 by means oi va spring i8. -A reversing lever I9 projects from the dog i6 at'one side of yoke ifi. rihe handle E3 isposi-v tioned on the screw 8 to project outwardly at one side of frame 5 as shown in Figure 4 of the drawings.
The rear corners o rear frame section 'l are supported on swivel or caster rollers 2i and the front corners of front frame section ii are similarly supported on rollers 2| to facilitate movement of front frame section G forwardly and rearwardly upon the operation of handle I3 to'feed nut it and force sleeve in a raising movement. A collapsible inverted vl-shaped brace 2i is constructed oi'front and rca- r sections 22 and 23 pivotally connected to each other at their upper ends by a conventional type of hinge structure 24. The lower end of rear brace member 23 is pivoted to the rear portion of rear frame member 'l by a conventional type of hinge structure 25 and the lower end of front brace member 22 is similarly pivoted to the front end of front frame member 6 by conventional hinge structure 26. A pair of tubular sockets 2i are suitably secured to the upper surface of rear brace member 23 and in which the lower ends of. a rear inverted U-shaped lift arm 28 are received and secured in vertically adjusted position by pins or set screws 29 selectively received in a row of openings 3l carried by each socket.
The upper end of U-shaped arm 23 is slidably received in a guide 3l secured to the underside and at the front portion of a platform 32.
A front inverted U-shaped lift arm 33 is similarly supported on front brace member 22 with its lower ends adjustably engaged in sockets 34 suitably secured to the upper surface and at the lower portion of the front brace member. The upper end of lift arm 33 is rockably secured to the underside of platform 32 at its rear portion by bearing brackets 35.
The upper portion of lift arms 28. and 33 above the bracel 2|, are crossed as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings and in the operation of the device the jack is held in its lowered position by operating handle I3 and swinging pivoted dog I6 in a direction to feed nut I 0 forwardly. on screw 8 whereby the weight of the jack will slide sleeve 9 forwardly on screw 8 and slide front frame member 6 forwardly. TheI nfont corner of front frame member 6, adjacent handle lf3 is provided with a handle 31' projecting laterally from the frame and parallel to the handle |.3` to provide a convenient grip for one hand. of a person while the other hand is used in operating the handle I3. The handle 31: is. also used to guide the frame 5 into its position under a vehicle.
In viewof the ioregoing description taken in eonjiunction with the` accompanying drawings it is. believed that. a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the dev-ice will be quite; apparent to those skilled in this art. AA more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is, susceptible to certain changes fullycomprehgndedby the spirit ol;` the invention as herein described and thescope of the appendedclaims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed asnewis;
l. A jack comprising a horizontallyv extensible base., screw operating means for moving the base into and, out, of` its extended position, a collapsible brace carried by the base, a pair of inclined crossed, lift. arms carried by the brace, and a platform at the upper ends of the lift arms, said brace comprising a pair of sections hinged together and to said base for upward swinging in angular relation when said base is moved out of extended position, said crossed lift arms being mounted on said sections for upward swinging thereby.
A jack comprising a horizontally extensible base, sc rewoperating means:v for moving the base into and out of its extended position, a collapsible inverted V-shaped brace carried by the base, a lift arm supported by each side of the brace and extending upwardly therefrom, said lift arms being crossed with each other, and a platform at the upper ends of said lift arms.

A jack; comprising a horizontally extensible base, screw operating means for moving the base into and out of its extended position, a collapsible inverted V-shaped brace carried by the base, a pair of lift. arms carried by and lying against the outer surfaces or' the brace with the upper' ends ofv the lift arms crossed, and a platform at. the upper ends of the lift arms.
4. A jackcomprising a horizontallyextensible base, screw operating means for moving the base into andv out of its extended position, a collapsible inverted V-shaped brace carried by the base, a. lift arm lying against the outer surface of each slidev of the brace with the upper ends of theA arms crossed with each other', means. securing the lift arms. in vertically adjusted position tothe brace, and a platform at the upper ends of thelift arms.

A jackl comprising a Iframe composed of horizontally extensible frame members, a jack screw iixed horizontally to one frame member and.; withl respect. to which the, other framemember is slidable, retcheting means engaging the screw to` ac tuate; the last-named frame member, a, collapsible V-shaped brace having its ends pivoted t0 the. respective frame, rrierribersv and rising therefrom.. lift arms. securedl against the outer sides of; the brace and crossed above brace, and; a platform at. the upper endsr 0f the ligfY-t. arms.
