The rotary roller `pump,"according 'to' the present invention, is the type having a rotor eccentrically mounted in a casing with a -plurality of recess'esin its periphery, each having a roller mounted therein adapted to engage the inner peripheral Wall of the casing. In most known pumps of this type, the rollers have been kept in contact with the peripheral wall-by centrifugal force only with the result that they-are not as efficient as they should be;VA 'w The main object of thisinvention is to provide means for keeping the rollers in positive engagement with the-peripheral wall of the pumping chanber without creating additional wear in the A further object is the provision of a rotary rollerpump in which therel is less wear than there is in ordinary pumps Yof this type, Y
A still further object vis the provision of a rotary roller pump which automatically adjusts itself to compensate for any wear or deformation ofplarts* With these vand'otherobjects in view, the presentY inventionwconsists essentially of a rotary roller pump comprisinga casing, a circular pumping chamber formed'in thek casing, a rotor rotatably and eccentrically mounted in the chamber, said rotor engaging the peripheral wall of the chamber in one area thereof, 'spaced inlet and outlet ports in the peripheral wall of the charnber, one on each side of said contact area, a shaft connected to the rotor and extending through the side walls of the chamber, a plurality of recesses formed in the periphery of the rotor, a roller in each recess extending from face to face of the rotor, and fluid means for urging the rollers against the peripheral wall' of the pumping chamber, as more fully described in the following specication and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pump,

Figure 3 is a cross section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I is a casing formed of a circular wall Il and side walls l2 removably secured thereto by studs I3. A rotor I4 is rotatably and eccentrically mounted in a pumping chamber l5 formed in the casing. Ports I6 and I1 are formed in the wall of the chamber on opposite sides thereof, preferably in the horizontal axial plane of the pump.

(Cl. 10a-136) However, these ports may be formed in the side walls I2 adjacent the positions shown in the drawings.Y These areinlet and outlet ports, the function of 'each depending upon the direction of rotation `of the rotor. Pipes I8 and ,I9 connect withfthe ports I6 and Il, respectively, and are adaptedk to convey a liquid to and from the pump. The rotor I4 engages the peripheral wall of the pumping chamber in the area 2B, said area preferably ,extending between the'tops of the ports I5 and I'I. The 'area 20 isconcentric with and has the same radius as the rotor so that the latter ts snugly against this portion throughout its length, as clearly shown in Figure 2. This peripheral wall drops away from'the rotor on each side of the area 20, although it is substantially circular. The rotor is mounted on a shaft 2I which extends through bearings I2a formed on the walls I2.
The Yrotor I4 Yhas a plurality of recesses 22 formed in its periphery, each having a roller 23 mounted therein. These rollers are preferably formed of a rubber composition material and extend from facel to face of the rotor. The depth of each recess is substantiallyjthe same as the diameter of its roller and its outer corners are preferably rounded as at 24, while the bottom 25 thereof is curved vand has the same radius as the roller.
AA pressure chamber 2B is formed within the rotor I4 centrally thereof. Actually, the rotor has a central web 21 by means of which it is mounted on the shaft 2l and the inner pressure chamber 26 is formed on each side thereof, the two parts of said chamber being connected by the recesses 22. The walls I2 form the outer walls of the pressure chamber. A rubber ring 28 is pressed on the shaft 2| on each side of the web 2l, and the outer surfaces of these rings may protrude slightly beyond the side faces of the rotor so that when the latter is mounted in the casing I0, the rings press against the inner surfaces of the side walls I2 to form a sliding tight joint inside the bearings I2a.
A rubber insert 35 is located in the area- 20 substantially mid way between the ends thereof and extends across the pump between the opposite sides of the pumping chamber I5. The inner surface 36 of this insert is concentric and in line with the surface of the area 2Il, and this insert may be provided with a stiffener 31 extending across the back thereof. A screw 39 is threaded through the casing III with its inner end bearing against the stiffener 31 adjustably to apply pressure on the insert 35.
