Description

Patented Aug. 15, 1950 ABDOMINAL BELT Philomne Decat Resimont, Liege, Belgium Application January 10, 1947, Serial No. 721,272 In Belgium October 19, 1942 Section 1, Public'Law 690, August 8, 1946 Patent expires October 19, 1962 3 Claims.
thighs, without influencing the position of the front piece.
A's the four straps connecting both main parts of the belt are made of supple material and those on the lower side are particularly elastic, the belt will by no means impede the person wearing it, whilst ensuring a perfect and firm support to the lower part of the abdomen and the internal organs of the body at this point.
The belt comprises ordinary sub-thigh bands, preferably elastic, and it is provided with stocking-Suspenders when intended for a woman.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will be described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figs. 1 and 2 are front views of the belt, respectively with the lower straps open and with the lower straps closed, the upper straps being closed in both figures.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the same.
The belt according to the invention comprises a back piece I constituted by a central elastic band a and two side aps bb. A re-entrant cut-out part c is provided at the lower part of the side edges; the belt further comprises a front piece 2 which is applied on the lower part of the abdomen and is also provided with two reentrant cut-out parts 5 on the side edges. The back piece is reinforced by vertical stays or stiffeners d and the front piece by oblique stays or stiiieners c'. The upper corners of the front piece 2 are connected to the upper corners of the back piece I by stra-ps l with buckles 3, and the lower part of the front piece 2 is connected to the lower part of the back piece I by straps 6 fastened to the lower corners oi' said back piece. The straps 6 are constituted by two or more adjacent elastic bands with button-holes Il) which are formed by transverse stitches 9 and pass over buttons 1 fastened by ribbons of small length in the plane of the front piece 2. 'I'he ends of the straps 6 are slid under a lap 8 secured on the front face of the piece 2; the latter has an elastic gusset or pocket I5 at its upper edge and in the middle. The sub-thigh bands II which are clasped to buckles II' on the front piece 2 are arranged to encircle the thigh in such a manner that they maintain the-same pressure both in the standing and sitting position; to this end the sub-thigh bands have their ends at an angle of about 45 to the median axis of the belt. The abdominal belt intended for women is provided with the usual stocking-suspenders I2.
Referring to Fig. 2. it will be immediately appreciated that in the assembled and closed posi*- tion of the various parts of the belt, spaces coinpletely free are left laterally, so that the hip points are relieved from any pressure' and the body movements are possible without influencing the position of the front piece, which assumes a position slightly lower in relation to the backpiece. Whatever the body position in relation to the legs may be, no distortion will take lplace in the 4belt proper and the pressure of the front piece 2 will continuously exert itself perfectly on the organs sustained by the b'elt.
There are four inner cushionsat the upper and lower ends of the front piece to prevent hindering pressures. A renal and/or stomachal pad may be provided.
The particular conformation of the elements I and 2 gives rise to a saving of material, Whilst producing a useful effect for the person wearing the belt.
According to the invention, each oi the stocking-Suspenders is fastened by two bands or ribbons arranged at a suitable angle to give a constant pressure both in standing and sitting positions, without the weight of the body being transmitted to the stocking-suspender. This results from the fact that owing to the arrangement of the clasp the effect is exerted at one time on one leg of the V, at another time on the other, which gives a constant tension arid makes it uniform. Y
The back -piece I is slightly curved at its upper edge to correspond in shape to the curvature oi the rear thorax. The stiieners of the front piece 2 are right or arcuated inwards accordingto the state of ptosis of the invalid. The. belt is put on when the invalid is in the lying position, i. e. when the abdominal and dorsal muscles are entirely relaxed; it is fastened without any displacement of the body, resulting in a maintenance of the organs immediately when the invalid rises, which is not obtained with other belts as they are attached and adjusted at the back. The drawback oi' the belts known heretofore for There results from said suitable shapes of the back and front pieces I and 2 two suppitng movements, that of the front piece upwards and that of the back piece also u'wdsf's-ldinvements bringing immediate reemwithfeatuiial 4 edges of the back member, the straps attached adjacent the upper ends being adapted to extend around the wearers hips above the hip points and the straps attached adjacent the lower ends being adapted to extend around the wearers hips Abelow they hip.. points, andgneans for. adjustably eirighefre ends ifjsid st'rps tofadjacent portions of the front member.
