411' ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDEEWFLOEE, F SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
STOVE-PIPE.
{SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,857, dated January 3, 1882.
Application filed August 27, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW FLOHR, a citizen of the United States, resident of Sacramento, in the State of California, have invented a new andvaluable Improvementin Stove- Pipes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Refer: ingby letter to the accompanyin g drawings, A designates a stove or furnace; B, the first vertical section of the pipe provided with a pivoted damper, U. The first section B of thepipe has an opening, E, the bottom of which is on a level with the pivoted damper 0 when the latter occupies a horizontal plane, and a slide, F, closes the openng E or discloses it when necessary.
A horizontal section, H, is connected with the vertical section B of the pipe, and has its ends provided with removable caps l l. A eylindrieal sliding damper, J, having an opening, K, and a draw-rod, L, extending through the center of the cap I, is provided witha handle or knob, M, and a slotted dish, 0, a pin or stud, P, projecting through the slot Q from the cap I, to regulate the distance to which the slid ing damper J may be turned to discharge its contents or to close the damper when neces- No model.)
ing J registers with the lower vertical section, at which time the soot will be dropped either into a similar lower slide or onto the pivoted damper (J in the first section of the pipe, where only one horizontal and two vertical sections are employed.
The caps at the ends of the horizontal lines may be also removed and the pipes thoroughly cleaned without disconnecting the joints of pipe or taking them from the stove or fut nace.
In bar-rooms and saloons long sections of pipe are frequently required, but the same devices may be applied as above described where it, may be necessary to employ forty or fifty feet of pipe.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a stove-pipe, the combination, ith an upper and lower vertical section of pipe, of a horizontal section provided with removable end caps and acylindrical sliding damper having a discharge-opening, a drnwrod, and a knob having a slotted disk engaging a pin in the removable cap, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW FLOHR.
