(01.442345 This invention relates to a childs toilet seat. and more particularly to a built-intseat adapted to beutilized in conjunction with a conventional toilet.
A primary objectof this invention is the provisionof a built-in seat of lesser diameter than the conventional toilet seat adapted to be situated in the back of such a seat whereby the same may be readily positioned to accommodate an infant or a child.

Other .Iobjects reside in the; combinations. of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and disclosed in the accompanying drawings wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the seat of the instant invention as applied to a conventional toilet, certain parts being shown in one position of adjustment.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the parts in a different position of adjustment.
Figure 3 is a plan view of certain elements of the seat in folded or assembled relation, as viewed from the front.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3, as viewed from the opposite side thereof.
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of the device disclosed in Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 6-43 of Figure 3,
Figure '7 is an enlarged sectional view, partially broken away and taken substantially along the line l-I of Figure 3.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-8 of Figure 9.
Figure 9 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 95] of Figure 4, enlarged.
Figure 10 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially along the line IilIil of Figure 3.,
, a chi-ids, toilet-"seat.generally,indicated-at-I6,
which .isafl-ixed-tas by. a strap member I l, terminating in leaf l8,-twthe-transverse lhinge bar 53 in the back portion i3, straps I 1 being engageable with an aperture 253 in the lower portion thereof, and contained therein as by means of a cover 2i hinged as at 22 to close the recess within the back portion I3.
It is to be noted that the back portion I3 also serves as a conventional seat cover and occupies very little more space than the ordinary cover.
A latch is provided to hold the seat I6 in closed position, and includes a button 23 on the inner side of the cover ZI adapted to engage a spring clamp 24 on the inner side of the recess I9.
As best shown in Figure 6, the seat member I6 is secured to the hinges IT as by means of screws or bolts 25, and rubber butters 26 are provided interiorly of the recess I9 to prevent marring of the interior thereof by the impact of the childs seat when folded into folded position.
Arm members 30 are also provided pivotally secured to the sides of the back portion I 3, as on pivots 3|, and the arm members 30 are joined at their extremitiesby a" loop 32, the arrangement being such as to preclude a child seated on the seat I 6 from falling, the arms and the loops serving to encompass the body of the child. The loop 32 is provided, as best shown in Figure 7, with notches 33 in the extremities thereof adapted to be engaged by a spring catch 34, the arrangement being such that the loops 32 may be extended or retracted as desired, and when retracted as best shown in Figure 4 will engage behind a lip 34 and in front of another lip I3 of the seat in such manner as to retain the arms 30 in their upper positions.
Obviously, the loop 32 may be extended as desired to permit the same to slip over the lip 34 and the arms to extend downwardly to the position disclosed in Figure 2.
As best shown in Figure 9, stop means including a screw 35, and an abutment 36 are provided interiorly of the arms 30 in such manner that when the arms are permitted to fall forwardly they will maintain a substantially horizontal position. In Figure 8, the abutment is disclosed as comprising flanges 3'! on the member 36 adapted to be engaged by screws 35 upon suitable rotation of the arms 30.
In Figure 10, there is shown a recess 48 positioned in the lower portion of the seat member adapted to provide a finger grip when lifting the seat. Rubber bumpers M are provided to protect the seat when the cover is folded forwardly thereon.
From the foregoing the method of operation of the device should be readily understandable. When it is desired to utilize the childs seat, the cover 2| is raised by releasing the catch comprising the button 23 and clamp 24, and the member l6 folded downwardly into engagement with the main seat H of the device.
folded downwardly, the loops encircling the child whereupon the cover 2| may be readily replaced.
Obviously, when it is desired to utilize the article for adult use, the cover 2| may be reopened, the arms 30 folded back, the loop 32 folded back of the lip 34, and the cover 2| closed, the seat member l6 being contained within the recess l9.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided a device accomplishing all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this in- The child is then placed on the article and the arms 30" ventive concept, and as many modifications may be-made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a back member having a recess therein and hinged to a toilet seat, a cover hinged to said back member to close said recess, a childs toilet seat hinged to said back member and foldable within said recess, arms pivotally secured to said back member and shiftable into horizontal position to support a child, a forwardly extending lip on the front edge of said back member, and a loop carried by and connecting said arms and slidably mounted thereon so as to releasably retain the arms against forward pivotal movement when said arms are in retracted position behind said lip.
2. In a device of the character described, a back member hinged to a toilet seat, arms pivotally secured to said back member and shiftable into horizontal position to support a child, a forwardly extending lip on the front edge of the said back member, and a loop carried by and connecting said arms and slidably mounted thereon so as to releasably retain the arms against forward pivotal movement when said arms are in retracted position behind said lip.
