This invention relates to cabinets and drawers and has particular relation to cabinets particularly suitable for holding sheets of paper such as photographic paper.

In the handling of photographic paper during printing and in similar situations where it is desirable to use single sheets successively, difficulty is experienced in taking but a single sheet at a time. This diiculty results intheloss of time and sometimes in the loss of sheets.

The primary object of this invention is the provision of an improved cabinet and drawers therefor. p

Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved cabinet having drawers which will hold sheets of paper of the same size and will present but a single sheet edgeat a time, thus rendering removal of a single sheet a certainty.

Another and further object of the invention is the provision of an improved cabinet and drawers therefor, which will be substantially light-proof when the drawers are in closed position but which when any drawer is pulled out, will present the top sheet of a pile with its edge forward of the others to facilitate easy removal of the top sheet only.

Another and further object of the invention is the provision of an improved cabinet having drawers which when closed will` have all four side walls in position to hold its contents in place but when drawn out will have one wall readily movable to permit more ready access to the contents.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved cabinet having drawers with a rear end inclined backwardly and downwardly to have a tendency to press the upper sheet of a pile of sheets to a forward position for easy removal of the` upper sheet.

Another and still further object of the invention is the provision of a drawer for a cabinet having its forward side in the usual relation to the two adjacent sides when the drawer is pushed to its inner position but when withdrawn may be moved from this position to permit of the more ready removal of the contents by the operative.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a cabinet drawer having a portion of its bottom separate from the remainder and attached to a movable front member with these two parts pivoted to the sides adjacent to the front in such a manner that the drawer, when containing a pile of sheets, may be Opened and 1 Claim. (Cl. 45-7) 2 the front and a portion of the bottom `swung out of the way of the fingers of the `operative to permit easy removal of the contents of the drawer.

Other and further objects of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from a reading of the complete specification.

The numeral 20 designates the rear side board of the drawer. This rear board 2li has a rear surface 29a which is perpendicular to the bottom board 2|. Its front surface 20h slants rearwardly and downwardly for a purpose to be later described.` Secured to each ofthe rearv boards of the respective drawers, and to the bottom board 2|, are side boards 22 which have at their front ends, the curved edges 22d to assist in the opening of the drawers as will be later made clear. The lower edges of the side boards 221 are cut away as at 22e to receive the edges of the bottom boards 2|. The parts 20, 2| and 22 are all secured together with suitable glue or nails or other fastening means as may be desired. During the operation of the drawer, these

20, 2l and 22 remain rigid relatively to each other.

The forward portions of the outside surfaces of the side boards 22 are cut away from top to bottom, as at 22h, to provide space for the hinge members of the drawer fronts as will be presently described.

The door fronts comprise the front member 2t which provides the inner surface of the front of the drawer, the face plate 24, and the short bottom member 25. The bottom member 25 is located in the plane with the bottom member 2l and may be provided with a space 25a between its rear edge and the forward edge of the bottom board 25, to facilitate the opening of the drawer when in use. The length of the front member 23 is equal to the distance between the outer sides of the side members 22 and its rear or inner surface contacts with the upper portion of the forward edges of the side members 22.

At a suitable distance from the front edge of each member 22 and in the cut-away portion 22h is located a pin hinge member 26. Mounted on this hinge member 26, are hinge plates 2! 'which are secured to the sides of the front member 23 in any suitable manner. The cut-away edges 22a of the forward ends of the side members 2,2, provide clearance for the swinging of the front of the drawer when in open position.

The cabinet is provided with a top member suitable side walls 5l, intermediate horizontal partitions 52, a back wall 53 and a bottom. plate member 54. The under surface of the top rnemdling and prevent sticking of the paper in the drawer. As illustrated, the preferred construe tion has no front rail or other obstruction .at the front of the inside of the door opening to interfere with the movement of the drawer from open position or to closed position when the drawer may be full of sheets of paper.

Each drawer is provided with a suitable knob 20 or other handle means for facilitating its opening.

In Fig. 4, there is shown a pile of paper sheets as of photographic paper, in a drawer. It is to be noted that the downwardly and rearwardly inclined rear Wall of the interior of the drawer, tends to hold the upper sheet in a forward position in the drawer. sheet has been removed, closes the drawer smartly which throws the sheets to the rear until they come into contact `with the rear wall. This action leaves the upper sheet slightly protruding forward beyond the next lower sheet which allows In use, the operative, after a y the drawer. When sufficiently withdrawn, the front of the drawer is moved from the front of the space and the upper sheet removed as already described. The front of the drawer is then moved to its closed position and the drawer closed smartly. This action moves the sheets to their rearmost positions and the drawer and its contents are ready for the next time the operative has need for a sheet from that drawer. While the parts in the illustrated construction are constructed andV assembled so that the door moves downwardly when open, it is to be understood that another direction might be used.

When in use in a photographic laboratory stacks of drawers of the proper respective sizes are provided, each having drawers carrying the respective grades of paper to be used.

As desired, the cabinet and drawers may be made of wood, metal, or any other suitable material.

While an embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described in detail, it is to be understood that the disclosure is merely illustrative and that many modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention and within its scope as claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed is:

A cabinet having a drawer, the drawer having side members, a contents-supporting bottom member, a back member having a forwardly and upwardly sloping surface for contacting the drawer contents, the back, side and bottom rnernm bers being relatively rigid to hold loose iiat sheets 0f substantially the same size in echelonic positions with the upper edges forward, and a pivoted front member for closing the drawer when in closed position and movable independently of the bottom member to open position to expose the iront edges of the contents with their edges arranged in echelon for easy removal.
