1 Claim.

This invention relates to a cuticle remover.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a device for removing the dead epithelial cells overlapping the surface of the fingernails.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a manicuring implement consisting of a milled end or cap on one end for reducing the excess cuticle from the ngernails where it grows at the junction of the skin and fingernail; to provide a device of this character to prevent irregularities in the cuticle and the formation of hangnails; to provide a milled end on the implement having a concave portion for removing the cuticle without injuring the nail; and to provide a device of this character which is simple, economical to manufacture and efficient in operation.

In accomplishing these and other objects of the present invention, I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a side elevational View of my inven tion showing the cap on the le end of the device.

Fig. 2 is a side'elevational view showing the cap removed and illustrating the le.

Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig, 2 except showing one side of the le portion smooth.

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view showing the milled end as it contacts the cuticle for removing the same.

Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional View particularly illustrating the concave end of the milled end of the device.

Fig. 6 is a view taken from the le end of the device.

Fig. 7 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of the milled end of the device.

Referring more in detail to the drawings:

I designates a. stem or handle preferably cylindrical in shape having an outwardly tapered end 2 provided with an annular offset shoulder 3 adapted to receive a cylindrical cap member 4 having a concaved outer face 5. The cap 4 has a milled cylindrical annular surface as indicated at 6 adapted to remove excess cuticle from the fingernail where it grows at the junction of the skin and fingernail. The extreme outer edge of the cap has a smooth surface 6. The concave face and smooth edge of the cap permits the use of the band with its small cutting surface and the removal of excess cuticle without scratching the fingernail.

The cap 4 is mounted on the end of the handle by pressing the same thereover to engage the offset portion thereof and is rigidly aiiixed thereto so that it may be rotated by rotating the handle between the thumb and nger to cut away and remove the cuticle.

The opposite end of the handle is provided with an elongated tool l having a milled or file surface on one side as indicated at 8 which runs to the tip thereof and a smooth surface 9 on the opposite side, the end being pointed as indicated at I0. The elongated tool or le 'i has an extenu sion on the end opposite the pointed end which may be pressed into a groove in the end I l as best illustrated in Fig. 6.

A cap I2 is provided to engage over the le end and is provided with a clip i3 for adapting the device to be carried in the pocket of the user.

Use of the nail file l is common practice but in use of the milled end 4, the annular surface 6 is rotated against the cuticle Ill of the finger I5 to remove excess cuticle. It will be noted that the concave end of the cap 4 with its smooth edge will prevent marring or scratching the fingernail I6 as illustrated in Fig. 4.

The handle may be of metal, vulcanized rubber, hardwood or other suitable material, such as plastic. The edge of the concave surface 5 of the handle at the end is circled by a band of preferably highly polished metal so it will not mar the face of the fingernail against which it is rotated.

It will be obvious from the foregoing that I have provided an improved file and cuticle remover which may be used to remove the cuticle from the fingernails without marring the fingernails.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A device for removing the cuticle from the flngernails comprising, a handle, and a cap rigidly mounted on one end of the handle, said cap having an annular milled surface for contacting the cuticle and a concaved cuter end, the extreme outer edge of said cap having a smooth surface to avoid marring of the fingernails.
