1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a manicuring accessory and has particular reference to a device to be gripped by the hand for presenting the thumb and fingers in fixed position for treating the nails.
The invention has for an object the provision of a device of said character which may be held by the hand to position the thumb and fingers so that nail polish may be conveniently and evenly applied thereto without smudging or smearing thereof and which retains the ends of the thumb and fingers in separated relation while the polish is drying. f
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device which can be conveniently employed by an individual when treating her own finger nails.
Still another object in view is the provision of a manicuring accessory which may be held by the fingers and thumb and retained in natural positionwithout tiring or cramping the thumb and fingers. l
With the foregoing and other objects in View,
reference is now made to the following speciiication and accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a manicuring accessory constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same held by the thumb and fingers for use in treating the finger nails.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken approximately on line 2--2 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the manicuring accessory consists of a body Ill constructed of any desired material such as synthetic plastic, compressed fiber and the like. The body IU is of a form and size that the same may be conveniently held by the thumb and lingers so as to dispose the body in spacedrelation from the palm of the hand and with the ends of the fingers arranged in separated relation for treating the nails such as applying nail polish thereto as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
In order to position the thumb and fingers so that the same are spaced apart and disposed in fixed position the body I is formed with a series of generally arcuate recesses II in the periphery thereof which are adapted to receive the forepart of the fingers respectively with the linger nails disposed outwardly and in overlying relation with the outer face of the body II). The body Ill is formed with four such recesses, two of which are formed in the upper ledge portion thereof while two are formed at one end of the body. The recesses I I are of a size to snugly receive the forepart of the fingers and are separated substantially equal distances by arcuate projections I2 so that the ends of the fingers are spaced apart to permit of the convenient application of nail polish to the linger nails without the finger nails isz-88.5)
touching so as to smear or mar the polish thereon.
The body I0 is also provided with a. circular opening I3 located adjacent the peripheral edge at one end thereof for receiving the forepart of the thumb so as to dispose the end of the thumb in overlying relation with the outer face of said body to thereby position the thumb nail so that nail polish may be conveniently applied thereto.
The body IIl is preferably formed with smooth or plane opposite faces I4 and I5 and with a v beaded or enlarged peripheral edge I6 extending continuously about the periphery thereof. The thumb opening I3 is also provided with a beaded or enlarged peripheral edge I'I which enlarged edge portions provide a widened bearing surface for the thumb and fingers and serve to stiffen the body so as to prevent bending or distortion thereof.
The body Ill may also be provided with an arcuate shaped recess I8 in the periphery thereof adjacent the circular opening I3, which may be employed for receiving the thumb in place of the circular opening I3. When holding the accessory for the application of nail polish to the finger nails the thumb may be arranged in the opening I3 so as to hold the accessory in position and the thumb then removed from the opening I3- and inserted in the recess I8 so as to more conveniently apply the nail polish thereto without the likelihood of marring the polish when removing the thumb and fingers from the recesses.
What is claimed is:
A'manicuring accessory including a body of generally flat formation provided with an opening adjacent the edge thereof and with a series of arcuate indentations in the edge portion thereof, said'indentatons being spaced apart substantially equal distances and located on the opposite side thereof from said aperture for receiving the forepart of the thumb in said aperture and the forepart of the fingers in said indentations respectively to thereby dispose the ends of the thumb and fingers in overlying relation with the forward surface of the body for holding the thumb and fingers in set position for treating the same and said body having an enlarged peripheral. edge portion extending continuously around the periphery of said opening and around the edge of the body and through the arcuate indentations to thereby provide a widened bearing surface for engagement by the thumb and fingers and serv-i ing to prevent bending or distortion of the body.
