This invention relates to an improved pants retainer.

Objects of the invention are to provide a device for storing pants and the like retaining the desired creases therein; to provide an extremely simple mechanical device for carrying out the above mentioned object; to provide a device capable of supporting pants properly in various angularly adjusted positions; to provide a device adapted to receive a plurality of pairs of pants in an extremely limited space without usurping closet hanger space; to provide a device which is inexpensive and lends itself well to production manufacture.

Other objects are inherent in the structure and function thereof as described and illustrated in the appended preferred embodiment of this inventive concept wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the invention shown in its preferred location on the inside surface of a gentlemans closet door;

Figure 2 is a sectional detail of the pad taken substantially on the line 2 2 of Figure 1 and in the direction of the arrows;

Figure 3 is a sectional view of the hereinabove discussed pad, taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure 2 and in the direction of the arrows, and

Figure 4 is a fragmentary detail partly in section showing the hinge construction and showing the travel of the legs of the device in phantom.

Referring in detail to the above mentioned views of a preferred form of the invention, like reference characters are used to designate similar elements throughout the views of the invention.

The numeral I0 is used to designate the invention in general terms.

A pair of stands or brackets I2 having end plates I4 secured by suitable conventional means thereon, is provided and adapted to be secured to a closet door or the like. It is here noted that frequently hanger space in a closet is at a premium and the hanging of pants therein actually uses a large percentage of space needlessly. Accordingly, the use of the instant device on the inner surface of a closet door positions a gentlemans trousers in the closet but yet does not usurp hanger space.

As noted from Figure 4 the said plate I4 may be secured to a closet door by conventional screw means I6 as illustrated. A pair of hinges I8 are secured to the ends of the said pair of stands I 2, having a travel such that they may be tilted only a limited distance backward whereupon the hinge faces abut and form a stop.

Secured to the other ends of the said hinges I8 are the terminal portions of a U-shaped bracket 20. A pair of apertures are provided in the web of said bracket 20 for receiving screws 22 adapted to xedly secure a pad 24 thereto. The said pad is composed of a block of wood or the like 26 having a resilient pad 23 on the top portion thereof and an upholstery cover 30 surrounding substantially the entire block. The said pad 24 is adapted to receive pants in properly arranged manner thereon, as seen in Figure l.

It is noted that in all positions of the pad, whose travel is limited by the bindingof the hereinbefore described hinges I8, the pants thereon are retained in proper and desired crease retaining position.

It is obvious that certain small changes in construction and function may be made to the instant illustration of the basic inventive concept without departing from the spirit of the invention, therefore limitation is desired only in accordance with the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described the instant invention, what is claimed as improved and novel is as follows:

A pants rack comprising a pair of stands including base plates adapted to 'be secured to a door or the like and arms having angularly extending end portions, hinges at said end portions, an inverted U-shaped bracket including a web and legs secured to the said hinges, a pad secured to the web of said bracket, and means on said web for securing the said pad thereto, said pad comprising a block having a, longitudinal channel therein accommodating said web and an arcuate top and straight sides, a resilient wadding on the top of said block terminating at the inception of said sides and a cover extending over said resilient wadding and said straight sides and attached to the bottom of said block.
