Description
July 11, 1950 T. HYGHLAGO NOSE AND MOUTH PROTECTOR Filed July 23, 1947 go INVENTOR Tobito .H'yyhl ATTORN EY WITNESS Patented July 11, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE NOSE AND MOUTH PROTECTOR Tobito Hyghlago, Taft, Okla.
Application July 23, 1947, Serial No. 763,048
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a nasal filter or protector.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a nasal filtering device or protector adapted to be extended about the nose and secured thereabout by straps tied in rear of the head and wherein fastening means are provided on the protector to which a mouth guard can be detachably connected and wherein the mouth guard at its bottom portion can be tied about the neck of the user.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a nasal filter or protector to which a mouth guard can be detachably connected, which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manuiacture and convenient to use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my nose guard or protector with the mouth guard attached to the head of the person.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the arrangement.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged front view of the nose filter or protector with the mouth guard separated from the same and slightly below it.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 3 and through the nose filter.
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view, in elevation. taken on line 55 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view, in elevation, of a modified form of a filter in which there is provided an opening in a part of the filter cover which is retained closed by snap fasteners which can be released to permit the removal of a filter or to permit the insertion of the filter thereinto.
Fig. 7 is a front elevational view of a kit adapted to receive the nose filter and the mouth guard.
Referring now to the figures, Ill represents my nose filter or protector. Straps ll extend from the sides of the filter to be tied about the rear of the head of the wearer. This nose filter has a downwardly curved top edge as indicated at 12 so that the same can be better fitted beneath the nose on the wearer.
Nose filter It is formed of gauze material and has nose filtering material l3 therewithin. This filter material can be of sponged rubber or added gauze so that it can be flexed about the nose. At the bottom of the nose filter or protector are snap fasteners I l adapted to receive complementary snap fasteners (5 of a mouth guard or shield l6 adapted to extend-about the mouth of the wearer of the protector so as to protect the mouth area. The mouth guard it is likewise made of gauze and has straps I! which can be tied in back of the neck so as to fit the mouth guard over and under the chin. The mouth 2 guard can accordingly be worn by the wearer or it can be detached therefrom.
In Fig. 6, there is shown a covering I8 that may be used for the nose filter H] or mouth guard or shield It, having top lid 59 with a snap fastener 20 thereon adapted when the lid is pulled over an open upper edge to engage with snap fastener 2| whereby to close the opened edge. By disengaging the snap fasteners, a piece of filtering material, such as sponge rubber, may be inserted within the covering 18. This filtering material is accordingly removable for the purposes of being cleaned or washed.
In Fig. 7, there is shown a covering or kit housing adapted to receive the nose filter and mouth guard. This kit housing is indicated at 22 and has a flap 23 with a snap fastener 24 thereon.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
A combined nose filter and mouth guard comprising a gauze envelope having two straight end edges and one straight side edge and a curved side edge to more closely fit the curvature of the nose, said latter edge being open to receive a filtering material, a fiap on the envelope adapted to close the open side edge, straps secured to the medial portion of said end edges for securing the envelope in position over the nose openings, a second gauze envelope having an elongated side edge and a foreshortened side edge of the same overall length of the straight side edge of said first envelope, and the end edges of said second envelope being curved outwardly from the foreshortened edge to the elongated edge, said foreshortened edge being open to receive a filtering material, a flap on said second envelope to close the open side edge thereof, straps secured to the end edges of the second envelope adjacent the elongated side edge for securing the second envelope in position over the mouth and chin and means connected to the foreshortened side edge of the second envelope and the straight edge of the first envelope for detachably connecting the envelopes together.
TOBITO HYGHLAGO.
