The present invention relates to a pouch or container for rubbers and the like adapted to be associated with an umbrella and to be disposed within said umbrella, when the umbrella is closed so as to be invisible.

The present invention further contemplates the provision of means for detachably securing such a pouch or container to an umbrella for the purpose described.

Usually when an umbrella is needed, rubbers also are needed, but oftentimes such rubbers are forgotten or it is inconvenient to carry said rubbers about. Accordingly, in the present invention a pouch is associated with an umbrella and in said pouch rubbers may be disposed. When the umbrella is closed, the pouch is concealed within the folds of the umbrella skirt. When the umbrella is to be used, the pouch may be detached from the umbrella, the rubbers then removed and the pouch folded and placed in the pocket.

Other uses and advantages of the present invention will readily occur from the following description and the drawing in connection therewith, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a closed umbrella showing in outline a pouch containing rubbers associated with said umbrella, in a preferred, embodiment of the present invention.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view of a portion of the umbrella shaft and of the handle when said umbrella is open showing how the pouch is associated with the umbrella.

Fig. 3 is a detailed cross-sectional view of a portion of the shaft showing a preferred embodiment of the removable clip used in the present invention arranged on said shaft.

Referring now to the drawing, a conventional umbrella H] may be provided having the usual umbrella fabric, covering, or skirt l2 arranged over radiating ribs M which are in turn connected by arms Hi to a ferrule I8 mounted on a shaft 26 having a handle 22 at the top thereof.

To hold a pair of rubbers or similar small articles, a pouch or small container 24 may be provided. This container may be made from any material, such as Cellophane or oil silk, although it has been found that a rubber container is most suitable. The material used is preferably pliable so the container may fit inside the skirt l2 and bend to approximate the interior f the skirt when the umbrella is closed. Thus, bulging of the skirt will not occur. Such container may be made, if desired, rectangular in shape and may be comparatively thin in cross-section. A flap 26 may be provided to close the opening of said container which is preferably arranged at the top thereof. Said flap may be secured in closed position by means of a snap fastener 28 or if desired by other suitable means.

To secure said pouch 24 detachably to the umbrella, I prefer to provide a strap or cord 33. It is to be understood, of course, that in place of the strap 30, a chain, string, or similar device might be used. The strap 35 may be permanently secured at one end thereof to one side of the container 24, near its top. The free end of strap 30 may be passed through an opening 32 in a tab 54 arranged on a U-shaped spring clip 35, and

the ends of the strap may be detachably connected together by a snap fastener 36, one element of said snap fastener being arranged on the free end of the strap, the other element being arranged on the end of the strap affixed to the pouch 24. It is preferred that two such snap fasteners 36 be provided so that if one accidentally is opened the other will hold the strap. The U-shaped clip 35 may have two spring arms 38 curved toward each other and terminating in two ends 49, which ends are curved away from each other leaving a space therebetween. These arms are made of spring material and conform in contour to the curvature of the shaft 25. The clip 35 is adapted to be snapped onto the shaft 20, preferably just below the handle 22.

It will be seen that when the umbrella is closed by snapping the clip 35 onto the handle shaft, the pouch may then be arranged within the umbrella fabric so as to be invisible. It will also be seen that upon opening the umbrella the pouch may be opened and the rubbers contained therein or any other articles may be removed therefrom. If the umbrella is held in open position, and it is desired that the pouch should not hang from the handle thereof, the pouch may be detached either by separating the elements of the snap fastener 36 from each other and pulling strap 3!! out through opening 32, thus leaving the clip 35 attached'to the shaft or if it is desired to remove the clip, too, the clip may be removed from the shaft by spreading the spring arms 38 thereof and then pulling the clip away from the shaft. In the latter case, it is unnecessary to separate the snap fastener element 35. The pouch might then be folded and inserted in the users purse or pocket. Of course, it is to be understood that the pouch may be used for other things besides rubbers, although, as stated hereinbe-fore, it is especially valuable in that connection.

It is further to be understood that the tab 34 might be provided with two or more openings, or that two or more tabs with openings might be provided, to accommodate a plurality of straps from each of which a separate container might be suspended. Or the opening 32 might be enlarged to accommodate a plurality of straps.

Other variations will readily occur to one versed in the art. Therefore, while I have described the present embodiment in specific detall, I do not intend to be limited thereby, but intend to claim my invention as broadly as the state of the prior art and the scope of the claims permit.

I claim:

1. A container pouch for carrying overshoes, which pouch is to be detachably secured to the shaft of a conventional umbrella and to be disposed within the skirt thereof when the urnbrella to which the pouch is attached is closed to thereby conceal the said pouch from view, said pouch made of comparatively thin substantially pliable material and of dimensions Whereby the pouch is substantially conformable to the interior of the skirt of the umbrella to which the said pouch is to be secured and in the skirt of which it is to be disposed when the said umbrella is closed, the pouch having arranged thereon means for detachably securing the pouch to the umbrella shaft of the umbrella to which it is to be secured, said securing means comprising a spring clip adapted to be detachably arranged on an umbrella shaft, a tab having an opening therein formed integrally with the spring clip and projecting therefrom and a strap member of length to dispose the pouch completely within the skirt of the umbrella to which the pouch is to be secured when the said umbrella is closed to thereby conceal the pouch from view.

2. A container pouch for carrying overshoes, which pouch is to be secured to a conventional umbrella having a skirt and to be disposed within the said skirt, when the said umbrella to which the pouch is to be secured is closed to thereby conceal the pouch from view, said pouch made of relatively thin, substantially pliable material and of dimensions whereby the pouch is substantially conformable to the interior of the skirt of the umbrella to which it is to be secured when the said umbrella is closed, and it is disposed in the skirt thereof, said pouch having arranged thereon means to secure the pouch to such an umbrella and a strap member having one end connected to said securing means and the other end connected to the pouch, the strap member of length to dispose the pouch completely within the skirt of the umbrella to which the pouch is to be secured to thereby conceal the pouch from view.

3. A pouch for carrying rubbers, which pouch is to be detachably secured to a conventional umbrella having a skirt and a shaft and to be disposed within the skirt thereof when the umbrella to which it is to be attached is closed to thereby conceal the pouch from view, said pouch having arranged thereon means for detachably securing the pouch to the shaft of a conventional umbrella, said means comprising a spring clip adapted to be detachably arranged on the umbrella shaft of the conventional umbrella to which the pouch is to be secured, a tab having an opening therein formed integrally with said spring clip and projecting therefrom, a strap member having one end thereof connected to said pouch, the other end of said strap member passing through said opening of the tab, a snap fastener element arranged on the said other end of the strap, a cooperating snap fastener element arranged on the end of the strap connected to the pouch, said snap fastener elements being adapted to detachably secure the pouch to the said tab, the strap member of length to dispose said pouch completely within the skirt of the umbrella to which the pouch is to be secured when the said umbrella is closed to thereby conceal the pouch, said pouch made of relatively thin, substantially pliable material and of dimensions to be substantially conformable to the interior of the skirt of the umbrella to which the pouch is to be secured and in the skirt of which it is to be disposed.

4. A pouch for carrying rubbers and which pouch is to be detachably secured to a conventional umbrella having a shaft and a skirt, said pouch having means arranged thereon for detachably securing said pouch to such a conventional umbrella, said securing means comprising a spring clip adapted to be detachably arranged on the shaft of the conventional umbrella to which the pouch is to be secured, a tab having an opening therein and formed integrally with said spring clip and projecting therefrom, the strap member having one end thereof connected to said pouch and the other end thereof passing through said opening in the tab, a snap fastener element arranged on the said other end of said strap member, a cooperating snap fastener element arranged on the end of the strap passing to the pouch, said snap fastener element being adapted to detaohably secure the pouch to the said tab, the strap member of length to dispose the pouch within the skirt of the umbrella to which the pouch is to be dotachably secured to thereby conceal the pouch when the said umbrella is closed and the pouch disposed within the skirt thereof.

5. A pouch for carrying rubbers, which pouch is to be detachably secured to the shaft of a conventional umbrella and disposed. within the skirt thereof when the said umbrella to which the pouch is attached is closed to thereby conceal the pouch from view, said pouch having arranged thereon means for detachably securing the pouch to the shaft of such a conventional umbrella, said means being of dimensions and adapted, when operatively secured to the said umbrella shaft of such an umbrella, to dispose the pouch completely within the skirt 0- the umbrella to which it is to be secured when the umbrella is closed, to conceal the pouch therein, the pouch being pliable and of such dimensions as to be approximately conformable to the interior of the said skirt of said umbrella.

6. A pouch for carrying rubbers, which pouch is to be secured to a conventional umbrella and disposed within the skirt thereof when the said umbrella to which the pouch is attached is closed, to thereby conceal the pouch, said pouch having arranged thereon means for detachably securing the pouch to such a conventional umbrella, a connecting member connected at one end thereof to the pouch and adapted to be detachably connected to the said securing means, said connecting member being of dimensions adapted to arrange said pouch within the skirt of the urn brella to which it is to be attached when said umbrella is closed to thereby conceal the pouch from view.
