Rom. SUPPORTING TYPEWRITER ATTACHMENT Filed Nov. 21, 1947 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 l5 l4 29 13 I6 29 7 Fig.2.
This invention relates to improvements in typewriter accessories.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved gummed label supporting accessory for a typewriter.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved support for holding a plurality of rolls of gummed labels in position adjacent a typewriter where they may be instantly and efficiently fed into the typewriter, as for example when a pharmacist has to prepare a label for a bottle of medicine.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved support for rotatably supporting a series of differently sized rolls of gummed labels in position near a typewriter where any roll of labels may be quickly inserted in the typewriter for typing the necessary information thereon.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved typewriter accessory for supporting rolls of gummed labels near a typewriter, said accessory being highly eificient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Another object of this invention is to provide supporting means of the character described and having a standard which is adjustable as to length so that the device may be adjusted in height for use with different standard typewriters and the typewriters of portable character.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved accessory shown adjacent a typewriter;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the improved accessory;
Figure 4 is an exploded view of the main vertical supporting standard for the accessory; and,
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a weighted base I, shown of circular shape and formed with a centrally disposed internally threaded socket 2.
A sectional three piece vertical supporting standard is provided and comprises an externally threaded lower thimble section 3 adapted. to be adjustably threaded in the threaded socket 2 and held in the desired vertical adjustment by the surroundinglock nut 4. The upper end of the thimble section 3 is recessed and internally threaded at 5 for. receiving the externally threaded reduced end 6 of the central thimble section 1. The upper end of the central thimble section I is recessed and internally threaded at its upper end as at 8.
A top section 9 is formed with a reduced threaded shank H! on its lower end for threading into the threaded upper end 8 of the central thimble section 1.
An annular recess l I is formed about the upper end of the top section 9, and is adapted to receive the locking ring or washer l2 which is preferably split.
A bearing head i3 is provided with a central bore l4 extending upwardly therein, terminating in the arcuate seat l5 in which a ball bearing it placed on top of the top section 9 of the standard before it is inserted in the central bore M.
An annular recess I1 is formed in the wall of the central bore l4 and receives a portion of the split locking ring or washer l2 when said parts are in assembled position.
A laterally extending annular flange H3 is formed integrally on the bearing head it and supports the circular table support it which is formed with five cut-out notches 2c in its peripheral edge. The central section I may be removed to shorten the standard when the device is to be used in connection with a portable typewriter.
oppositely disposed bearings 23 are mounted at the sides of the five notches 2|) and support the shafts 24 upon which the spools 25 are rotatably mounted, and which form the cores for the rolls of gummed labels 26 which are perforated at 2?.
The attachment will be placed near a typewriter 28 and any one of the rolls of gummed labels 2% may be rotated into alinement for feeding to the typewriter when instructions or data has to be typed thereon. Resilient fingers 29 will be supported on the table support l9 and will engage the outer surfaces of the rolls 2% to resiliently tension the same.
Thus it will be seen that separate labels will not have to be located and inserted in the typewriter each time one has to be filled in.
While the preferred embodiment of the instant invention has been illustrated and de scribed, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the character described including a weighted base, a sectional vertical standard adjustably supported on said base, a bearing head rotatably mounted on said standard, a supporting table having radial notches and supported by said bearing head, and pairs of opposing bearings on said table at the edges of said notches for supporting rolls of material rotatably mounted in said radial notches.
2. A device of the character described including a weighted base, a sectional threaded vertical standard adjustably supported by said base, a bearing head rotatably mounted on said standard, a ball bearing disposed between said head and standard, a radially notched supporting table supported by said bearing head, and pairs of opposing bearings on said table at the edges of said notches for supporting rolls of material rotatably mounted in said radial notches.
3. A device of the character described including a weighted base, a sectional threaded vertical standard adj'ustably supported by said base, an intermediate section of the standard being removable, a bearing head rotatably mounted on said standard, a supporting table having peripheral notches and supported by said bearing head, pairs of opposing bearings on .said table at the edges of said notches for supporting rolls of material rotatably mounted in said peripheral notches, and resilient tensioning fingers on said supporting table frictionally engageable with the peripheries of said rolls.
4. A device of the character described including a weighted base, a sectional threaded vertical standard adjustably supported by said base, a bearing head rotatably mounted on said standard, a bearing disposed between said head and standard, a radially notched supporting table supported by said bearing head, means for looking said bearing head upon said supporting standard, pairs of opposing bearings on said table at the edges of said notches, shafts rotatably mounted in said pairs of bearings whereby rolls of strip material rotatably mounted in said radial notches, and radially extending resilient tensioning fingers secured to said supporting table and frictionally engageable with the outer surfaces of said rolls.
