Description

June 6, 1950 s. D. MAYER HANDLE ATTACHMENT FOR PAPER CLIPS Filed Aug. 30, 1944 wi izw v Wade; ZQ/mgg Patented June 6, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HANDLE ATTACHMENT FOR PAPER CLIPS 1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachment for paper clips designed primarily for use for attaching to sheet music to facilitate the turning of the same while playing a musical instrument, and the invention has for its primary object to provide a handle attachment for one end of the paper clip and by means of which the clip may be easily grasped for the purpose of turning the sheet music without delay and thus avoid interruption in the continuity of the playing of the music.
A further object is to provide an attachm nt of this character which may be constructed and decorated with a. desired color to improve the appearance of the article and where two or more clips are attached to several sheets of music the various colors may be employed to designate in their order the sheets of music to be turned.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat :and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a fragmentary plan view of a sheet of music or paper showing th improved paper clip attached to one edge thereof.
Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of the paper clip.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on a line 4-4 of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on a line 55 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a wire paper clip of conventional elongated construction and which includes the parallel sides 6 and 7 and rounded ends 7'.
The handle or finger gripping attachment is designated at 8 and is preferably of substantially frusto-conical hollow form and may be made of light weight metal or other suitable material and provided with a pair of bendable lugs 9 at its smaller edge adapted for rolling outwardly around the sides 6 and I in gripping engagement therewith. The smaller end 8' of said handle or gripping attachment 8 is fitted in one end 7' of the clip '5.
The larger or outer end of the finger gripping member may be closed by a cover ll) of a desired color, or the outer end of the finger gripping member may be closed by a wall formed integral therewith.
The finger gripping attachment 8 is attached to the paper clip adjacent one end thereof and the opposite end of the paper clip is adapted for engaging the edge of a sheet of paper or sheet music indicated at I I whereby the finger gripping attachment may be easily and conveniently grasped to facilitate the turning of the sheet music, when desired.
It is believed that the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from th foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A device for attachment to an edge of a sheet of music for grasping to facilitate turning the sheet comprising an elongated wire clip having sides constructed and arranged for cooperative gripping action and also having rounded ends, and a finger grip comprising a hollow member of substantially frusto-conical form having a smaller end fitting in one of said ends of the clip and provided with edge lugs embracing the sides of the clip, and a cover closing the larger end of said member.
STANLEY DAVID MAYER.
