This invention relates to hair combs.

One object of the invention is to provide a comb having improved means for freely supporting the same on a plane surface in inverted position, with the comb teeth projecting upwardly whereby this article may be designated as a stand-up comb.

Combs of this character have the advantage of occupying very little space on the dressing table and of permitting rapid air-drying of the comb teeth, and the comb affords an attractive display novelty on a ladys dressing table. According to the usual practice, combs are generally ornamented as by having decorative configurations at the back thereof, and I have perceived that the provision of a base or supporting means'on the comb would materially interfere with the character and scope of the decoration that might be provided, as well as with the modes of manufacture employed.

, It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a stand-up comb having improved means such that the comb support shall leave ample room for the provision of any desired decorative configuration at the back of the comb, without interfering with the scope of the design employed -or with the method of manufacture.

I have also perceived that the support portion of a stand-up comb tends to interfere with the normal holding of'the comb at the back thereof so that various people find use of'such a comb objectionable.

It is therefore another object ofthe invention to furnish a stand-up comb having improved means whereby the major section at the back of the comb may remain conventional or be other- .wise formed relatively narrow to facilitate the holding in the hand of the operator while main taining provision for ample stability of the comb inits inverted position with the comb teeth projecting upwardly. ,Another object of the invention is .to construct a stand-up comb having improvedmeans for: supporting thesame and for locating, the

With the aforesaid objects in view, the inven-.- tion comprises the novel features, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described in their preferred embodiments, pointed out in the subjoined claims, and illustrated in the annexed drawing, wherein like parts are designated by the same reference characters throughout the several views.

The advantages of the invention as here outlined are best realized when all of its features and instrumentalities are combined, but useful embodiments may be produced involving less than the whole.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, that the same may be incorporated in several different constructions. The accompanying drawing, there? fore, is submitted merely as showing a preferred exemplification of the invention. I
