This invention relates to garment coats particularly, but not essentially, for ladies wear, and aims to provide an overcoat which enables a number of style changes to be made readily at will by the wearer.

According to my invention, I provide slits in the side seams of an overcoat, which slits are in proximity with the waist of the wearer when the coat is donned; and attach to the interior of the coat, by means of any convenient connecting members of appropriate length, buttons which may remain concealed, or, if passed outwardly through said coat slits, become exposed for use as means whereby a belt or belt components may be detachably connected to the coat.

Another characteristic of my coat is theoptional-provision of press-button or other detachable fastening means on the inside of the garment in proximity with the waist, and the members of which fastenings are so spaced and arranged that, when connected together, side pleatings are exteriorly formed on the coat.

I will further describe my invention with the aid of the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings which show by way of illustration, but not of limitation, one mode of embodying same.

In said drawings:

Fig. l is a fragmentary view of coat showing one of a pair of buttons which have been passed from the inside to the outside of the garment ready for belt attachment, and Fig. 2 is a view showing the button when drawn to the inside of coat and is concealed from view when the coat is donned.

Fig. 3 is a fragment of the coat showing one of a pair of slits formed in the side seams for the passage of the buttons.

Fig. 4 is a rear view of the coat with the buttons concealed, and so to be worn without a belt.

Fig. 5 is a rear view of the coat with buttons on the outside and a half-belt attached thereto, and

Figs. 6 and 7 are similar views showing (Fig. 6) the coat for wear with belt components to be buckled at the front and (Fig. '7) for wear with belt components to be tied at front.

Fig. 8 is a fragment of the inside of the coat showing means by which a pleating may be formed at will on the back of the coat.

In the several views, like characters of reference denote like or equivalent parts.

Referring now to the drawings:

a denotes the coat and b one of a pair of inconspicuous slits formed in the side seams in proximity with the waist of the wearer when the coat is donned. c, 0 indicate a pair of buttons each of which is secured to one end of a piece of cloth d the other end whereof is attached to a seam strip e of the inside of the coat near the adjacent slit I). Said buttons may thus remain concealed (Fig. 3) or, if passed outward through their respective coat slits b (Fig. l) exposed.

Thus, if said waist buttons c are on the inside of the coat a plaini. e. beltless coat (Fig, 4) is obtained. If now, said buttons 0 are brought outward through said seam slits b to the exterior of the coat, the ends of a short belt 1 may be buttoned thereto to produce a half-belt coat (Fig. 5) similarly, by the aid of other appropriate belt portions also connected to said buttons, belts g of buckle type (Fig. 6) or belts h of tie-on type to be secured at the front of the coat (Fig. 7) may be adopted.

7' indicate components of a pair of pressbutton fasteners spacedly sewn on the inside of the coat in proximity with the waist, so that if said fasteners are brought together and attached one to the other (Fig. 8), an exterior fold is created which, in conjunction with a belt forms a uniform pleat 7c.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An overcoat for personal wear having a pair of slits each formed in a side seam of the coat in the proximity of the waist, a pair of fastening members each attached to the interior of the coat and capable of extending through one of said slits when desired, the free ends of said fastening member at all times being retained in close proximity with said slits and belt components being at times detachably connected to said fastening members.

2. An overcoat for personal wear having a pair of slits each formed in a side seam of the coat in the proximity of the waist, a pair of connecting members each attached to the interior of the coat and capable of extending through one of said slits for positioning exteriorly of the coat, detachable fasteners spacedly secured to the inside of said coat in the proximity of the waist and so arranged that when connected together they create side folds on the exterior of the coat and belt components detachably connected to said connecting members extending through said slits and capable of forming said folds into pleats when fastened together.
