4 Claims.
This inventionrelates 't'o toiletries or to articles employed primarily by the feminine members of society in their personal ministrations for maintaining the physical being sanitary and attractive.
More particularly, the invention relates to a soap dispenser container-of a character and size to be readily carried in the pocket, pocketbook,
or handbag conveniently accessible for use.
When traveling complete, sanitary facilities are not always available although running water is frequently available without any soap. It is therefore desirable that soap be available and attempts have been made to solve this problem by providing small cakes of soap encased in some available Wrapper. such as for example paper or the like which is affected by the water on the soap when it is rewrapped after use. Notwithstanding that this method of providing soap is convenient it is objectionable to have wet soap for obvious reasons.
There are also times when it is necessary or desirable to carry a special kind of soap fora particular purpose. For example Jcertain skins sometimes require specialimedication with which only a special 'type-ofsoapcani be used. Doctors use special-soapsfor special purposes-v and to combat particular diseases.
It is an object of the invention to provide means for making soap available in the desired amount in a dr conditionbc'fore and afterusing, and which can be easily carried in the pocket, pocketbook, or handbag, or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a soap container and dispenser of simple and inexpensive construction, which can be readily produced, and which can be easily employed for efiiciently dispensing as required the desired amount of soap.
Briefly stated, the invention comprises an elongated substantially rectangular container for a small piece or cake of soap, with the container having a dispensing slot and provided with a reciprocable soap shaving element with a manipulating portion disposed externally of the container and foldable snugly against the container out of the way when not in use. Also a spring pressed member is located within the container for urging the soap against the shaving element.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective illustrating the use of the invention;
Fig. 2', an exploded view; and
Fig. 3'; a' longitudinal section on an enlarged scale.
"Wit-h continued'reference to the drawings, a rectangular open top container-or soap receptacle it] is provided-having a low-sidel l forming a discharge opening for soap fromthe container'.
-A topor cover 12 isprovided with aslot'lt and sides is and 15 dispose'dat right angles to its body on-itsundersidein order to reinforcethe top and for suitable engagement 'withthe container for maintaining the top inclos'ed position. The top or cover I 2*is-'provid'ed withears"| 6, secured by pivots ll to-thecontainer so that the to can be raised and loWe'redtf'orthe introduction of a cake'of soap.
The lower edge of the side I i-terminates in slightly spaced relation to the edg'e-l I in order to providea dispensing slot while the-side ['5 overlaps the correspondingsideof the container 15 andmakes asolid 'connection therewith.
As'shown, the side ilanges M and I5 of the topare provided with internally disposed recesses [-8 for the reception of corresponding projections 19 on the side walls of the container. This con'struction"will maintain the-top in a closed position 'while the-device is not in use.
Ihere has been-"described-a container with a pivoted topand with-a dispensing slot between the top and 'thelow. upper edge of theside wall of the container through which slot soap shaved or separated from the mass is adapted to be dispensed. In order to separate soap particles from the body of the cake or mass, a shaving member 28 is provided having its ends 2| turned downwardly at right angles to its body and sharpened to provide soap engaging blades which scrapingly detach soap from the body of the cake during reciprocation of the shaver.
From the center of the body of the shaving member a projection 22 is struck up which is adapted to extend through the slot I3 in the top of the container. A ring 23 located on the opposite side of the top from the shaving member 20 is disposed in the projection 22 for slidably moving or reciprocating the shaver for shaving soap from the cake within the container so that this soap can be discharged through the slot.
In order to cause the soap to be pressed against the shaver, a supporting plate 24 is provided and is upwardly projected by means of an H shaped spring member 25 held by pivot 26 to the underside of the plate. Thus a cake of soap 2'! on resting on the plate will be constantly presented to the shaver until the cake is completely exhausted.
The above described dispenser can be carried in the pocket or in a pocketbook readily available for use at all times. After use, the dispenser can be put away in dry condition for reuse at a convenient time.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is shown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as indicated in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A soap dispenser of a size to be carried in the pocket and comprising a substantially rectangular open-top container having a low side, a soap supporting plate in said container, a curved H shaped spring member secured centrally to the central portion of said plate for normally urging the soap upwardly in said container, a cover having a longitudinal slot, said cover being pivoted at one end to said container and having an edge adapted to solidly engage the side wall of the container and with an opposite edge spaced from said low side of the container and providing therebetween a dispensing slot, cooperating means between the container and the free end of said cover for maintaining the same in closed position, a slidable shaver on the underside of said top for detaching soap from a cake, said shaver comprising a body having spaced shaving blades, said body having a struckup portion extending through said slot in said cover, and a manipulating ring received by said struck-up portion and forming means by which said shaver can be manipulated.
2. A soap dispenser of a size to be carried in the pocket and comprising a substantially rectangular open-top container having a low side, a soap supporting plate in said container, means for normally urging the soap upwardly in said container, a cover pivoted at one end to said container and having an edge adapted to solidly engage the side wall of the container and with an opposite edge spaced from said low side of the container and providing therebetween a dispensing slot, cooperating means between the container and the free end of said cover for maintaining the same in closed position, a slidable shaver on the underside of said top for detach ing soap from a cake, said shaver comprising a body having spaced shaving blades, and a manipulating ring forming means by which said shaver can be manipulated.
3. A soap dispenser of a size to be carried in the pocket and comprising an elongated opentop container having a low side, a soap supporting plate in said container, means for normally urging the soap upwardly in said container, a cover for said container having an edge spaced from said low side of the container and providing therebetween a dispensing slot, cooperating means between the container and the free end of said cover for maintaining the same in closed position, a slidable shaver in said container for detaching soap from a cage, said shaver comprising a body having spaced shaving blades, and a manipulating ring forming means by which said shaver can be manipulated.
4. A soap dispenser of a size to be carried in the pocket comprising an elongated container provided with an elongated open side, a cover for partially closing said open side and providing an elongated dispensing opening between one edge of the cover and the container, a plate in said container adapted to support a mass of soap, means for normally urging said soap supporting plate toward said cover, a slidable shaver in said container adjacent said cover engaging said soap to detach particles therefrom, and finger engaging means attached to said shaver and disposed exteriorly of said container whereby said shaver may be manipulated to dispense particles of soap from said container.
