. 1 Claim.
The invention rel-ates to a rule and more especially to anon-slip parallel rule.
' The primary object of the invention is the provision of a rule of this character, wherein parallel lines canbe scored on a sheet of material, without errors du to the slipping of the rule during the transfer or ruling use thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a rule of this character, wherein it is equipped with rollers, these enabling the movability of the I same with ease and dispatch, the rule in its entirety being of novel construction and is unique in the assembly of its parts, which are comparatively few in number, thus economical to repair and replace.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a rule of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, compact, readily and easily operated, useful to navigators, draftsmen or other craftsmen and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

Figure 11 is a fragmentary side view partly broken away, of one of the adjustable mountings for the end roller.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the rule substantially rectangular shaped or elongated body in, having a flat bottom face ll, while at opposite longer side edges are beveled straight line ruling flanges '12 which are co-extensive with the longitudinal extent of the body I'll for parallel rulin'g purposes.

The axles III are journaled in block bearings l6 adjustably suspended by screws l6 from brackets Hi secured within the body. The brackets H5 are provided with vertical slots lli for the reception of the ends of the axles l4. These rollers l5 are what might be termed side rollers.

At the longitudinal and transverse center axis of the body It! and the crown housing I 3 is an upwardly tapered column 24 which is confined within such housing and. within which is workable a vertically slidable plunger 25, while in the upper stem portion 26 is adjustably connected 8. presser head 21, the crown housing being cleared for the stem 28, as at 29. This plunger 25 is tensionedby a coiled spring 3i! set over a guide pin 30*- between it and the body Ill. The guide pin 30 is fixed to the body i ii and has a loose fit in a connectthe inner ends ofthe bars 32 to the plunger: 25, as at 35. The outer end of each bar 32' has slopping slots 36, in which the ends of a rod 36 are mounted. The bearing blocks 20 are suspended from the rods Elli by set screws 31' and blocks 3'! which provide for the vertical adjustment of the bearing blocks with relation to the rods. The spring 30 and springs 31 associated with the body l and bars 32, function to hold the end rollers I9 with portions of their peripheries below the lower surface of the body l0 and below the plane in which the lower sides of the side rollers 55 are located, whereby normally to support the body It! on the end rollers, and thus provide for the endwise movement of the device. To retract the end rollers l9, whereby to effect the supporting of the device on the side rollers, and thus provide for its sidewise movement, the presser bar 21 is depressed.
The screws 31 are engaged with the upper ends of the bearing blocks and swivelly oonnected to the blocks 31, the latter being mounted on the rods 36 At each end and each opposite side of the body 'lll -are the spirit levels 38 and 39respectivelyso 'that it can be determined when the rule is resting at a level in the longitudinal and transverse directions.
The rollers I5 and I9 when in contact with a surface prevent the slipping of the rule and in this way no errors therefrom can come about in ruling parallel lines, the rule being rolled broadside or endwise in contradistinction to the sliding thereof upon a surface, during the use of the said rule.
-. What is claimed is:
A non-slip parallel rule, comprising a boardlike tend a predetermined distance below the bottom surface of said body, said rollers being journalled in pairs in said body with each longitudinally extending pair adjacent the sides thereof and the outer ends of the rollers inwardly of the outer ends of the body and said rollers are adapted to permit transverse movement of the body, and rollers mounted in said body adjacent the outer ends thereof outwardly of the outer ends of said first rollers to permit longitudinal movement of the body, journals for the end rollers, said journals being adjustable to raise or lower said end rollers with relation to the plane of contact of said first rollers so that the contact of said first rollers with a surface may be varied, means for simultaneously moving the end rollers to simultaneously lift said first said rollers from contact with said surface so that all of said first rollers are moved into contact or out of contact with the surface in one movement of said means, said means comprising a pair of bars each including an inclined surface at one end engaging a portion of each of said adjustable journals, and a plunger operably connected to said bars at the I ends opposite to said inclined surface, and means The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
