1 Claim.
This invention relates to window shade and curtain rod brackets and it has for its primary object the provision of an integral unit formed with a window shade roller support and curtain rod standards and capable of being applied to a window frame without the aid of such devices as nails, screws, or the like, and includes integral means for engaging and strengthening the rod standards while the latter are supporting curtain rods.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a detachable integral arrangement of a window shade supports having in combination therewith a pair of curtain rod standards which can be made rigid in supporting curtains or drapes while retaining the rods against displacement from the standards by the wind or by and means other than the manual removal thereof.
Broadly, the invention comprehends the provision of a single integral unit embodying both window shade support and curtain rod standards formed from sheet metal, or the like, and providing in the said unit integral means for securely restraining the said standards against yielding under the burden of the attached curtain rods having curtains or drapes arranged thereon.
While the foregoing objects are paramount, other and lesser objects will become manifest as the description proceeds, taken in connection with the appended drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective illustration of the invention showing a window shade and a curtain rod supported thereon.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the inven-- tion.
Figure 3 illustrates a side elevational view of the invention, and
Figure 4 illustrates the invention in its initial blank form after being cut by a die from a sheet of metal.
The invention is embodied in an integrally formed bracket I and comprises integral cut-outs I I in the body I2 of the bracket I 0, in the manner illustrated in Figure 4, and which are bent outwardly in a horizontal plane. The members II are formed with hooks I3 at their outer ends which engage the integral curtan rod standards I4, also formed in the bracket III, at their upper ends to provide rigidly therefor when curtain rods I5 are supported thereon, as shown in Figure l.
The bracket III is designed to overhand the header of a window, or the like, as in Figure 1, and is capable of being installed without the use of screws, nails, or other devices, and thus affords a substantial shade and curtain rod support capable of being installed or detached at will without defacing or marring the woodwork about a window while affording a substantial supporting medium for the window dressing.
It is desirable to first cut the integral bracket II) from sheet metal, or the like, with a suitable die, as illustrated in Figure 4, and form the same in the manner shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3. In Figure 1 the bracket is shown detachably secured to a window I6 and a window shade IT, as well as the rod I5, is shown attached. The rod I5 is illustrated as extending around the shade II in the conventional manner but without the curtains or drapes attached.
The rod standards I4, while integral with the body I2, of the bracket Ill, may be weak and incapable, in themselves, of supporting a set of window curtains or drapes and the members II provide means for making these elements rigid, as in Figures 2 and 3, by being bent outwardly and made to engage the standards I4 by over-reaching these members with the hooks I3 which have narrow slots I8 therein into which the edges of the standards It repose when in latched position, as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3. In Figure 3 the members II are shown in latched position while the unlatched position is shown in dotted lines in the same illustration. It will be observed that the latch members I I can be bent upwardly while the rods I5 are applied and then pressed downwardly into engagement with the standards I4 to hold these members rigid and to prevent dislodging the curtain rods I5 therefrom.
It is apparent that certain changes and modification may be resorted to from time to time by persons skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim. I
What is claimed is:
In a combination shade and curtain bracket stamped and formed in integral rightand lefthand units adapted to be attached to a window header, rightand left-hand roller supports formed on said units, each of said units having a body portion providing a mounting base for said roller supports, a pair of curtain rod supports formed with said base and capable of being arranged at right angles thereto in spaced relationship with each other and with said roller supports, cut-out portions in said base capable of being extended horizontally providing latching means for each of said curtain rod supports, and supporting means for said brackets formed with said base overreaching said window header and engageable therewith.
