' OFFICE TIME INDICATOR. A N D MEMORANDUM Andrew H. Gundersen, Plano, Application March 21, 1949, Serial No. 82,633
My invention relates to improvements in a time indicator for offices or shop having a memorandum pad and pencil associated therewith, the ensemble being housed in an attractive receptacle, having a door capable of being opened to gain access to the memorandum pad and penoil, the door when open providing a ledge or support for the pad.
A further object of the invention is to provide an indicating medium whereby when a person leaves his ofiice or home, he may set the indicator so that callers can tell when the person will return, provision being also made to provide a convenient memo pad on the back of the indicator to permit callers to leave a message.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the type described that is attractive and decorative, yet easily constructed and capable of long and hard use without becoming broken or out of order.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a device of the class described a convenient snap member for holding a memorandum pad in position against the back of the front door of the receptacle firmly when in use but easily operated to release its hold on the pad, to remove or replace the same.
Other objects and advantages will be more apparent from the following description wherein reference is had to the accompanying drawings, upon which Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a preferred embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan sectional view thereof with the front door swung to an open position;
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 showing the support for the front cover or door; and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the clamp or snap member for holding the memorandum pad in position.
In the embodiment of the invention which I have chosen to illustrate and describe, I have shown a time indicator and memorandum pad receptacle which may be in the nature of a rectangularly shaped housing having the base III, the top l2, side walls l4 and I6, and the back wal1 I8.
I provide a front door or cover 20 connected by a suitable hinge member 22 to a ledge 24 secured to the base l adjacent the front edge of the side walls 14 and IS.
The door 20 may have a dial 26 positioned against the face of the same mounted upon a pivot member 28 extending through the door and 1 Claim. (Cl. 28144) having a rotating knob 30 secured to the frontof the same. The dial may have numbers from 1 "to 12 upon its face in the same manner as the numbers or numerals are placed upon a watch or clock dial. I provide the indicia 28, upon the face of the door 20, the indicia reading Expect to return about and an arrow pointing toward the axis of the dial 26. The indicia 30 reading Please leave a note may also be placed on the face of the door below the dial 26.
With the dial and the indicia provided, it can be seen that when a party leaves his home or office, he may set the dial to indicate the approximate time that he expects to return, thus indicating to any callers when he will be back.
In order to open the door 2|! to leave a note as suggested on the face of the door, the knob 32 may be rotated to the right or to the left to bring the lug member down to clear the ledge 36 extending downwardly from the top I2. The door may then be swung open and supported in a horizontal position by the shoulder members 38 and 40 secured to the face of the door 20. When the door is swung down to an open position as shown in Fig. 3, the ends of these members will bear against the ledge 24 and support the door and memorandum pad in a horizontal position.
I provide a memorandum pad clamp member comprising the base portion 42 with the upturned end flanges 44 and 46. The clamp member may have a pair of end flanges 48 and 50, against which the end of a memorandum pad M may be positioned.
In order to rigidly hold the memorandum pad in position, I provide a clamp or snap member 52 pivoted between the end flanges 44 and 48 in such a manner that when the edge of the same is raised, it will permit the withdrawal of the memorandum pad and when it is snapped down, it will frictionally hold the memorandum pad in position.
The memorandum pad M may be provided with a plurality of sheets having identifying data such as the date, name, address, telephone number, and remarks printed thereon to assist a caller in formulating a message to be left on the pad. I also provide a pencil P mounted against the back of the door on a clip member 60, available for use by a caller in writing his message.
From the above description, it can be seen that I have provided an attractive and useful office or home appliance to indicate to callers at the offlce or home when the person will return and have also provided facilities for peremitting a caller to leave a message in such manner that the same will be available when the party returns, yet not be loosely placed upon a desk or table so that it could be blown away or become lost.
By the use of the spring clamp member, which I have provided, it is an easy matter to replenish the supply of memorandum pads when they become exhausted, yet during use firmly hold them ginpljace.
While Ihave illustratedand described aspe'cl fic embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that changes and rnodiv fications may be made in the exactdatails shown;
and I do not wish to limit myself in-any particul5,
lar, rather what I desire to secure anu protectbw Letters Patent of the United Statesisi:
