Description

April 25, 1950 A. BELSKY BLANKET COVER AND HOLDER Filed July 1, 1946 NVENTOR WWW? BQZSIQ W A EZRNEYS Patented Apr. 25, 1950 UNITED PATENT QFFI'QE I BLANKET'COVER madman Abraham fielsky', Brooklyn; 3N. Application: Jur r, 1946,!Seria lN0. 680; 753 retains. (01. -335) This-invention relates to detachable covers-for quilts andblankets. h
The principal object of this-invention is the provision of a detachable-cover of the character described which may be-used" inconnection with any conventional blanket or quilt without defacing the blanket or quilt or damaging it in any way, and without requiring a preadaptation of the blanket or quilt for use in connection with the cover.
It is a well known practice to cover blankets and quilts and similar articles with washable covers. This keeps the blankets and quilts in clean, sanitary condition and it is a relatively easy proposition to wash the cover. A serious objection to this practice, however, lies in the fact that no practical means has heretofore been devised for keeping the quilt or blanket in proper position within the cover. Attempts have been made to anchor the blanket or quilt in place within the cover by means of safety pins, button and buttonhole constructions and snaps or every character. The objection to each and all of these devices is the fact that they either damage the blanket or quilt or else require some special construction in the blanket or quilt to enable the cover to be used in connection therewith. Safety pins for example put holes in the blanket or quilt and in the cover as well. Button and buttonhole constructions require that buttons be sewed into the blanket or quilt or else that buttonholes be provided therein.
In the present construction no damage of any kind is caused to the blanket or quilt and no sp cial preparation is required to adapt the blanket or quilt to the cover.
A preferred embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which- Fig. 1 is a plan view of a cover embodying the principles of the present invention, showing the means by which the blanket enclosed in said cover is held in place;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 showing the means by which the blan- 'ket is held in place.
The cover I 0 herein claimed has a top sheet II and a bottom sheet l2 which are sewed to each other along their respective edges as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. At the corners however and along a sizable part of one side, these two sheets are not sewed together. This is clearly shown in Fig. 1. Instead a snap construction I3 is provided at each corner, the male member being afflxed to one of said sheets and the female memher totheother His by meansfofthese snaps that the-open corners may be closed. The opensi'de is also provided with a snapconstruction l=3 forthesame-purpose. r
each of the snap constructions is a clip member l5. This clip member is provided with a ring l6 through which the male and female parts of the snap construction engage each other, and it is by means of this ring that the clips are connected to said snap constructions.
The precise construction of clip I5 is not very important, but a preferred form would be relatively fiat as is the clip shown in Fig. 3. It would not be desirable to have a bulky clip in a blanket cover. The preferred clip I5 is provided with a pair of jaws l8 and I9 respectively which are adapted to grip between them a blanket or quilt 20. It will be seen in Fig. 1 that the blanket or quilt is held by means of these clips at all four corners and at the open side as well. It is through this open side that the blanket or quilt is inserted into the cover. To remove the cover from the blanket or quilt, the clips are opened and the cover disengaged from the blanket or quilt which may, therefore, be withdrawn through the open side of the cover.
It will be appreciated that What has above been described is but a preferred embodiment of the invention and that changes may be incorporated therein without departing from the spirit of the invention. Other means than snaps for example may be used to anchor clips to the cover, and clips other than the one shown, may be used to hold a blanket or quilt in place. A clip which is adapted to engage blankets and quilts of different thicknesses is preferred.
I claim:
1. A blanket and quilt cover comprising top and bottom sheets adapted to hold a blanket or quilt between them, said sheets being fastened to each other at their respective sides, openings between said sheets at their corners and along part of one side, said side opening allowing the blanket or quilt to be inserted or to be removed therethrough, and a plurality of clips detachably fastened to said top and bottom sheets arranged one at each corner and one at said side opening for engaging and holding the blanket or quilt.
2. A blanket and quilt cover comprising top and bottom sheets sewed to each other at the sides, openings being left between said sheets at the corners and along part of one side, snap fasteners aflixed to said sheets one at each of said corners and one at said side opening and a pluseen that detachably connected to rality of clips connected to said snap fasteners for engaging and holding the edges oi the blanket or quilt.
3. A blanket and quilt cover comprising top and bottom sheets fastened to each other at the sides, openings between said sheets at their corners and along part of one side, snap fasteners connected to said top and bottom sheets one at each of said corners and one at said side opening, the male members of said side fasteners connected to one of said sheets and the female members to the other of said sheets, and a plurality of clips detachably engaged by said snap fasteners, the male members thereof engaging the female members thereof through said clips, said clips being for engaging the edges of the blanket or quilt to hold said blanket or quilt in place in said cover.
4. A blanket and quilt cover comprising top and bottom sheets connected to each other at their sides,'openings between said sheets at their corners and along a part of one of the sides, snap fasteners attached to said sheets one at each of their said corners and one at said side opening and a plurality of clips having rings attached Number thereto, said rings detachably connected between said sheets to said snap fasteners, the snap fasteners extending through said rings, said clips being for engaging and holding the blanket or quilt.
